Super Smash Bros. Brawl

K and I got Super Smash Brawl Sunday. I've been on sick leave most of the week, so have had alot of time to play with it.. with K and by myself. I'm nearly halfway through the Subspace Emissary sidescroller game and K and I have played.. a few brawls together, as well as starting Subspace Emissary together.

I love this game. There's just so much to it. It's clear that they spent ALOT of time on this game trying to make it as good as possible, which isn't something I say about many games.

I love the main mode, the Brawl. It feels like there's infinite replayability with it, with the various characters (I think there's 40 some players, all with their strengths and weaknesses), the different boards (there's.. 30 of those, I think?) and the items that can very suddenly change a game. I know each character and each boards has it's own strategy, but you have to switch it up a little bit when an item shows up, since it can do everything from.. give your character a farther melee reach, or provide a weapon that shoots across the screen, to make your opponent giant or metal. Seriously, infinite replayability.
And if that isn't enough, you can enter Special Brawl where you can start making up your own rules. Whether or not you're just trying to kick each other's butts or whether you're trying to get the most coins or.. whatever. You can play on stages you design yourself as well, which I haven't played with yet.

In addition, if you've got a large number of players (if, like I intend to do next month, I bring the Wii in for Wii day at work and we get everyone together for one game) you can play Tourney style too, which I haven't played with YET, but I hope to soon.

If you're by yourself, like poor little sick me, there are things you can do too, such as play the Subspace Emissary sidescroller. It's a blast from the past for playing games like Mario Bros.. you wander around a board trying to get objects and trying to kill enemies. There's a half-decent (though I wouldn't call it great) story combining all of the characters in the game together to fight the bad guys. I'm actually pretty impressed that they bothered to spend the time on this at all, but they did take the time and the boards are tough, at times, the battles tough. Everything's pretty, though, and the music's well done and this Subspace Emissary is quite a bit of fun. :)

But that's not all! If you feel like giving it a try, you can go through a 12-stage single player battle against different foes or team of foes. At the 12th stage, you deal with the boss, Master Hand (or Crazy Hand).

There's also the collectibles to mention. Along the way, you can pick up trophies, stickers and music, or can unlock characters, stages, trophies and music by doing certain things in the games.. playing for a certain amount of time, or a certain number of brawls, unlocking certain characters, etc. The stickers have use in the Subspace Emissary game since they can help each character. The trophies seem to just be there to look good, and music can be played, but not necessarily on a stage, it seems.

All in all, I'd rate this game a 10, which I'd rate very few games. With the exception of Sims 2, in fact, I don't think I'd rate any game a 10. It has some minor drawbacks such as long loadup times, sometimes, but.. all in all, alot of time, effort and love went into this game and it shows!

Do you have this game yourself? And if so, want to exchange Wii numbers so we can maybe try to arrange an online match with the Wi-Fi feature?
