I, er, kind of dug my heels in and refused to leave the hospital without the baby (but then, I thought the doctors were jerking me around, and...it got real combative). If that's not your route, is there a hotel near the hospital where you could hole up, so you don't get snowbound away from the baby? There often will be one near hospitals, so people can stay there while their relatives are checked in.
