Dork-A-Thon Music Xchange?

I had an idea. I'm curious to see who'd want to be a part of this.
One of the main interests many of us share is music.
So, perhaps as part of the Dork-A-Thon, I suggest a Music Exchange.
Don't worry, I'm not asking you to bring your computers along.
What I suggest is this:
Any interested party burn one CD of songs (you can burn MP3s or just a plain old music CD. Whichever you like) that chances are that the others don't have.
If you like, you can hand tailor your CD to the person you're giving it to (for example, I might, should I choose, burn a different CD for.. say [livejournal.com profile] kareila who knows more of the stuff I like than [livejournal.com profile] ecwoodburn), but that's up to you.
So.. would people be interested in this sort of idea? :)

Me me me! I'd be up for this. :) I can probably burn a few, too! I have lots of CD-Rs.

So.. Audio CD or MP3 CD? :)
Or you dunno yet, you'll think about it :)

I like the idea as well. n.n Though I'll probably just end up putting a mix of the music I have onto a CD and make you listen to it, listen to it all, all, AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
...
Yeah anyway.
I'll probably do an mp3 CD.

In our case, it'd be easier to just bring the computers, the hub, and some extra Cat-5's. Would that be cool with you?

[identity profile] lite.livejournal.com 2003-06-23 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. so long as we can figure out a way so that I can get the nifty music :)
And I have no idea what a Cat-5 is. it sounds like a sort of feline to me ;)

CAT5 = Network cable with RJ-45 connectors. As opposed to RJ-11 connectors (regular telephone line).

[identity profile] lite.livejournal.com 2003-06-23 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha.
Still not sure where we'd put them, though. Especially if they're full sized computers...

They've got everything on their laptops, at least at this point. I could just bring my PC and borrow your monitor for networking everything, then use a remote access tool to get to anything I needed on my computer from yours (or anyone else on the network).

Not like I have ANY experience in networking or anything s:)

[identity profile] lite.livejournal.com 2003-06-23 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Um.. Um.. Um...
>.> <.<
K.
We have an extra monitor (A computer that's like never used cause it's old and take forever to load) if that keeps mine in place :)
It's up to you. Laptops are a little easier, but.. you remember my basement. Room *IS* an issue for computers. One or two laptops might be OK and another computer on the white desk next to me might be OK, but much more and we won't be able to use the room at all :/
Also.. the cat litter..

I'll take a look this weekend, OK?

Mmkay :)

Yet another reason to hate that I'm missing the dork-a-thon!

Great idea! I'd love to be a part of it.

(Hope I can find time to prepare something between now and then...)

If not and if [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar bring a hub, I'm sure you can just make sure some songs of interest are on Phoenix (or whatever laptop you bring with you?)

[personal profile] phoenixsong 2003-06-23 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, I'm in. s:)

And since we brought it up Saturday, I can bring the router (as well as my computer). It's only 4 ports, but I get up to 250-odd IP addresses, so between that and [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar and [livejournal.com profile] kolys's hub, I think we'll have everyone covered fairly well (so long as they have a regular NIC rather than wireless).

If there's any equipment you'd like to have that you can't provide, let me know? I could bring all kinds of cables, hubs, a wireless access point...

Hee, yay geeks! Are we hijacking this into a LAN party?

Um, I've got a Linksys router, PC tower dual-booting Win2k/Win98, and a few regular CAT5s. (I know [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar and [livejournal.com profile] kolys have a hub, not sure if we'd need it or not (and don't want to assume anything unless one of them jumps in on this), plus wires for their laptops to connect.)

I adore VNC and would likely just run that on my computer once it was set up, rather than bothering with another monitor.

How many wireless computers would we be potentially working with? And do we continue this discussion here, or do we just drag all the geeks into a room in Chaotic or AIM and sort it out there? [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar said she gave you my AIM, which is fine by me seeing as I added you a few days earlier. s:)

[identity profile] lite.livejournal.com 2003-06-24 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
This is a dork-a-thon. We're allowed to dork/geek out :)
LAN party is OK. Just wanna make sure there's room for everyone.
So long as y'all hook me up into the network so I can steal music from everyone ;D

[personal profile] phoenixsong 2003-06-24 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
Of course we'll hook you in. Silly boy. s:*

And now that Kareila's brought up wireless, that may very well fix the space restriction issue. I'll have to geek with her and other interested parties to figure it out for certain.

[identity profile] kholnuu.livejournal.com 2003-06-23 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Normally I'd be in, but I lost all my music files. I'll see what I can whip up somewhere, though.

[identity profile] lite.livejournal.com 2003-06-24 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
You don't have to. I just thought it might be a nifty idea.
Anyways, here's your pass for three days at home and your copy of Kazaa LITE ;)

Hm. I think I can do this, as long as I can find some good songs to put on the CD. But I definitely couldn't fill up a CD with MP3s, heh.

[identity profile] lite.livejournal.com 2003-06-24 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
No worries. The point is to bring music to share. it can be an audio CD, an mp3 cd or whatever.
If you look above, it looks like you can even bring your laptop (though details to be sorted out later ;) )

Assuming my laptop is back from Compaq by then...and it better be. ;)
