First Impressions: Sims 3: World Adventures
So... I picked up the game yesterday afternoon. Came home, installed it and played it..
Decided to port over to the family I'd been playing earlier, the MacKenzies. They have about $20,000. Hopefully enough for a vacation. I'd decided that one of my Sims was interested in learning Martial Arts. Why? Well, he was an Evil, Insane Criminal and it just sounded right to me, so off to Shang Simla, China.
So off Edward, the Evil, Insane Criminal, went to China, with Kaylynn his wife. Immediately they check in to the Base Camp and were informed since they were new to the country, their Visa Level was 0, so they could only stay here 3 days. Well, poot. Immediately, they both checked out the adventure board to see what adventures existed out there.
Edward got there first, so he got the starting adventure, that teaches players like me what adventures are, how they work and how crypts work. Kaylynn got their second and was given a second totally different adventure regarding helping a local scientist make a telescope. It wasn't clear when I first looked at the adventure board whether or not groups could do adventures together, but it appears that they can. (That said, most of the adventures we've done so far are more one-person type deals. Though having a second person maybe can't hurt. One more person to shut traps off.)
Edward gets more or less immediately sent into a local tomb to explore while Kaylynn has to wander around getting new metals and gems. Each country now has new stuff you can't get anywhere else, new metals, new gems, new insects, new fish, new books, and new local songs that the locals can teach you. Kaylynn is sent out to basically run errands while Edward stops by a general grocer first to get some tomb-dwell necessities, some dried food, a tent and a couple of showers in a can. Then down into the dusty old tomb below the forbidden city he's sent. There, he learns the basics of tombs. How to look for switches, stand plates and holes in the wall. And what kind of nifty treasure one can get inside. Meanwhile, Kaylynn's errand running is showing fruition. The telescope is built with little to no real issue. However, now she needs to convince some of the locals to keep their lights off (which really means socializing with the locals.) Luckily, her charisma is fairly high so she has no problem hitting it off with the locals. It might be a good thing Kaylynn was given that responsibility instead of Edward. Edward would probably click like a chicken at that and tell them that the voices in his head tell them to turn their lights down or DIE.
Edward finds the relic he's looking for in the first starter tomb, comes up to the service and give it to a merchant for a fee, some ancient coins (which can be used to buy special rewards available only in the three worlds.) and some visa points. He goes back to the Base Camp, showers, eats and sleeps, Kaylynn wraps up her mission as well, and the scientist is happy with the telescope. She gets enough visa points to get Visa Level 1 meaning next time she can stay in China for *5* days.
Which is just as well. The next day, Edward heads over to the local Sim Fu temple to learn martial arts. He walks in, surprised that the place is empty, except for a training dummy. Well, says Edward, I can show that training dummy what for! An hour later, flat on his back, Edward looks up and KNOWS the training dummy is laughing at him. It certainly keeps kicking his butt. (Out of story note... I can't help but think having someone TEACH a class in Martial Arts might have been useful...where's the wizened old man who spouts fortune cookie comments and kills flies with his chop sticks?), but eventually he figures out the basics of Martial Arts and in no time, he is on his way to a fulfilling lifestyle of mastering Martial Arts. He's even feeling cocky enough to spar with a gentleman who stops by the academy to train. He gets his butt kicked, however. :|
Kaylynn wanders around that day, taking in the local culture, buying gifts to bring home. Oh, that chest there would be perfect to have at the front of the bed and keep some of our treasures from this trip inside of! And Dad would love it if I picked him up this book about Sim-Fu. Oh, and a book for little Sean! And what's this? A recipe for Egg Rolls? I need that!
Three days comes by quickly. Not too quickly to have each amassed a few interesting memories have. Edward and Kaylynn come home, handing out gifts and knowing that they'll need to come back soon. For one, Edward's feeling the need to go back into the Academy and prove his worth against other sims who can do Sim-Fu. Maybe next time Dad and Sean can come with...if we can wait that long!
Oh, and BTW... someone already found the music on Sims 3: World Adventures and placed some of the soundtrack on YouTube. I know some of you will find this quite a find ;) The link is here. Share and enjoy. :D
Cause, yes, I am linking to the Sims 3 World Adventures soundtrack at work! ;D
