Stuff, Things and Other Things

Thing the First: Open Beta Party. I've got a place in mind that I personally think will be best for all of us, the Tastee Diner in Silver Spring. It's drivable, it's near a metro, it's got wi-fi, it's mandated by law to be wheelchair-accessible and they said they could EASILY handle a group of 15 or 20. No reservation needed.

I'm waiting to hear from Mayorga Coffee, also in Silver Spring. Numerous people have suggested it as a possibility, so.. I contacted them to go "O Hai, U Has Party That Day?"

I really want to get this finalized soon, though, so... I hope to hear from them real soon.

Thing the Second: Dance Checkout? We got to dance class on Saturday and Michael suggested we do a split lesson. Sure, boss. That's fine. So we get through another review and, really, we've got this. Somewhere in the middle of all this, Michael lets us know two things. 1) He was really happy with our performance in Freestyles. He thought we did a good job, even mentioning how during the Closed Swing, we were the only one of the three people K's dad caught on video on beat. 2) He wants to talk to Jessie before Wednesday and see if they can't bend the rules slightly. How things SHOULD go is that we have a lesson Wednesday that Jessie watches and then after the lesson, we have a progress check where we find out how much further they think we have to go until we check out. However, Michael believes we're already ready to check out and the progress check was delayed due to scheduling issues, so Michael's going to see if instead of the progress check, he can't just get Jessie to check us out. We'll find out.. well.. before Wednesday's lesson what the deal is, but the fact is.. one way or another, we're a hop, skip and jump away from being Bronze II students.

Thing the Third: Sims 2/Sims 3. I pulled out Sims 2 again this weekend. I was kinda bored and was looking for a game to play, so I pulled it out. I'd been sorta avoiding it for a while because.. well alot of reasons. Sims 3 comes out June 3rd, a little more than a month away, and it looks to be infinitely more cooler than Sims 2.
And Sims 2.. with everything is.. buggy and frustrating at times. An example of the bugs, yesterday I pulled out a new character, one that came with Freetime and played him. He was a popularity Sim which meant he wanted to be friends with everyone and wanted to host alot of good parties.
So this sim makes a few friends, invites them over... how the game SHOULD work is that most of them come over. Maybe those he's not friendly with enough yet don't. Instead.. maybe one or two or none show up, and then in the middle of the 'party', one calls him to talk.. in the middle of the party!
The Sims code has gotten too complex. It seems like every times they add new stuff, it mucks up the code and adds new bugs. Some of the bugs I've learned to live with, but.. I think, knowing Sims 3 is coming, knowing it'll be infinitely cooler.. I just am ready to move forward.

Though don't kid yourselves. I already have the expectations that a couple years away, Sims 3 will be kinda buggy too. :p

Though I have to laugh.. one of the promises Sims 3 has.. well, promised is unprecedented control on how your Sims look, because one of the complaints about Sims 2 is that all the Sims look the same. And it's true.. once you play, all the Sims really DO start looking all the same. So Sims 3 claims to fix that. And they have added things.. more choices in hair colors, skin colors and body types (fat, thin, muscular, etc.) than ever before..

But Sims 3 is still so very far from 'being able to make anyone'. The one ground they NEED to break is height. All the Sims are the same height unless you cheat using 'StretchSkeleton'. There is no way to make a realistic Sim who looks like me, as I am over the average height, or K who is under the average height (ignoring the fact that Sim Men and Sim Women are all the same average height.)

There's also.. there's MORE Choice now, but not enough. There's no way to change the size of the chest, the length of the shoulder or hip. That is.. once again, there's just no way that Sims can deliver what they promise, the ability to create ANYONE..

All I can hope is that, in game, there's more variety and not ALL the people look the same...

.. and that's really all the Things I wish to discuss right now. So.. ciao!
