Seasonal Affective Manic.. er.. ness?
Anyways.
It's a BEAUTIFUL afternoon. Temps in the upper 60s or low 70s. I just had a great workout. (I didn't realize how much better the workout would be with real actual cushioning on my feet. No wonder people buy specific shoes) I'm about to get some more work done on my GIS project. And I'm ahead of my schedule for studying for my EIT.
Life is Good.
The Future (especially if I PASS these EITs) is so bright, I gotta wear shades!
No thanks to my father.
Yesterday was... interesting.
I had a message when I came home from dad.. Josh could get a car and insurance through my company (which was never agreed on by my company) *IF* I co-signed on a loan for a car with dad.
Alarms went off.
For those "not in the know", my credit history is.. not spectacular. My father left my family in a position where it was difficult to just pay for heat, food etc.
Especially with three cats and a dog.
Then I went to college. And I got my first credit card (cosigned by dad).. and... due to things like having to put vet visits on the credit cards and major grocery shopping trips etc... my card was maxed out.
And my mother who did all this with the understanding she was going to keep paying at least the minimum (since very little of the charges were mine)... didn't.
She swears she couldn't. I don't recall things that way. There have been big fights over it.
So, anyways... my credit history went down the tubes thanks to that. Part of me knew that in order to achieve real success in my life I had to do what I couldn't do then... achieve real financial independance. I'm still working towards that goal, but I'm (I think) very close. I already pay for the majority of my groceries, my clothes, dinners out, the majority of "toys" I get (I sometimes get things for presents and stuff, but in general, if I'm dying for a CD or video game, I buy it.), half the cat needs (despite the fact that only 2 of them are mine, my mom and I split everything), the cable modem, gas and insurance etc. etc.
The only things I don't currently pay for are water, heat and electricity.
Anyways... moving on.
So, luckily.. my mother got a raise.. and another after. And we can now afford to not only pay bills, but spoil our cats (and to some extent ourselves. We do have three digital cable boxes (and cable modem, but I pay that), so my mother looked into getting her own credit card and got one... oh.. about a year ago. She's looking to repair her credit history and this is the way.
I was finally able to get my own credit card about 6 months back and am trying to do the same thing.. repair my credit history. Especially since it's only a matter of time before I need to get a credit check for a new apartment or a new car or whatever.
So there's absosmurfly no way I'm willing to take a chance on ruining my credit. Especially when dad can take this entire loan out by himself in just his name and put Josh on just his insurance until such a time as Josh gets a liscence (I'd guesstimate July or August. It'll be after he finishes Driver's Ed.) and then Josh can look to get his own insurance.
So I told Josh I didn't like this. And mom thought up another point. If, while learning to drive, Josh, while on MY insurance, gets into a minor fender bender, my insurance rates could go up or I could even be dropped. (more on this later)
So we called dad up and said... come over. We need to talk.
Meanwhile, Josh and I called Geico. They won't accept him on his own without a liscence. (I've suspected for a while that Geico KEEPS it's rates down because they're selective about who they allow on. If you have a history with even a recent accident or ticket.. *boot*.)
And Josh tried All-state who wouldn't insure him over. Not only that, but they said the absolute best thing for Josh to do is go on one of his parents' insurance.
Then we called Geico AGAIN and they said, we could put Josh on my insurance, on my car, for free (WHILE he has a permit only. After he gets a liscence, it was about $50 extra. That looks like, if dad decides to be an ass, what will happen.)
So that's things on this end...
and this is a much longer post than I'd planned.
Ah well.
