First Day of Classes and Massive TMBG'age
Aug. 27th, 2002 07:40 pmSo today was the first day of classes I'm auditting. I'm officially only taking three credits of thesis this semester, but I'm auditting three classes: Biological Principals, Special Topics in remediation and Numerical Methods in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering.
Why, you ask, am I auditting three classes?
Because I'm masochistic and I want to. They all seem interesting and I wanna learn.
The Biological Pricipals classes is taught at 8:00 AM - 9:20 AM, Tuesdays and Thursdays by Dr. Weber. I like Dr. Weber alot. He's a very energetic speaker and he actually manages to keep the class with him for the entire time, which is a difficult task to do for 80 minutes. I'm excited about this class because, first off, microbiology is important if I'm going to do anything with natural water systems and second of all, I sort of fell through the cracks when it came to taking this course. Last year, they combined the Biological Principals and Chemical Principals class, AFTER I'd already taken Chemical Principals and it was suggested I not bother to take the combined class, so I didn't, which, as I understand it is a GOOD THING (tm) because that class was a NIGHTMARE. Too much material and too little time.
The second class I'm auditting is Special Topics in Remediation (or Advanced Remediation) is taught 2:00 - 3:20 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's an entire graduate course devoted to groundwater remediation, taught by Dr. Rabideau. I like Dr. Rabideau and he's a really nice guy, if a tough grader. The unfortunate part is that I've seen SOME (hopefully not ALL) of this material before in other classes and I'm hoping above hope it isn't all repeat.
The third class I'm auditting, the one I'm currently most excited about, is Numerical Methods in WREE, taught 3:30 - 5:00 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dr. Jankovic is teaching this course. It's not only going to be a course about Numerical Methods, but at the end of it, I'll have practical experience in the language of my choice (which will be Fortran, since I need experience with it for my thesis) and I'll develop a library of programs set to solve numerical methods problems, which could not hurt.
So that's my classes. In between learning there, I'll be working on my thesis.
In other news, I've been on a big TMBG kick. I've been hanging around the TMBG Chat Rooms again, delving into trying to figure out what's on their CD coming out 9/17, entitled Dial-A-Song: 20 Years of They Might Be Giants, which, by the looks of it, will be mostly a best of CD with little to no new material. I'll see when it gets here, I guess.
I also fleshed out my TMBG collection. Up to this point, I never had the entire CDs MP3d, just selected songs. I now have ALL my TMBG CDs mp3d and sorted appropriately and trying to decide what to do with the other 100 Megs I have left before I burn this to CD. I have the choice of putting on the McSweeney CD, which I don't really care for, but would nearly complete the collection of all the released CDs by TMBG... or I could sort through the Unlimited Stuff and try to pull out 100 Megs of good nonrepeated stuff from there.
I'll figure it out, I guess :)
I got into another argument with a couple of "TMBG" fans on the TMBG chat today who went on about how Flans is big and fat and has ruined TMBG. I suspect those two were two of the idiots who annoyed me so badly on #tmbg.
As some of you know, I left #tmbg because I got sick of being proclaimed stupid because A) I had the audacity to talk about They Might Be Giants in the #tmbg chatroom and B) I got sick to death of people talking about how Flans ruined TMBG and how he ruined Mink Car.
Hell, someone called me a lamer the other day (on the official TMBG chat room) because "Birdhouse" was my favorite song.
I hate to say it, but some of these TMBG fans are real ELITIST BASTARDS! :o
Ah well. Let them have theirs. I enjoy TMBG and I don't have conniptions every time I hear "Mink Car" and I still enjoy their concerts without gasping about how fat Flans is or how he's screwed with That Which Is TMBG.
Whatever.
Anyways... time to post
