Political Rant #2845E26
May. 12th, 2004 10:03 amSo the time is near to pick the nation's new president who will lead the nation for the next four years. Many to most of you know that, politically, I'm a democrat and a liberal, but I have centrist tendencies (that is to say, I don't agree with EVERYTHING the Democrats have to say just because they're Democrats - I like to THINK and have my own OPINION on the political issues.)
I have been following the news pretty closely the past couple of months and I have to admit, publicly, I have never been more ready to say "fuck it all" and vote Green Party. I wouldn't vote for Bush if he was running against a dead man. And Kerry... I liked him once, but...he's lost my respect in the past month or two because all he's DONE is establish himself as a man who can snipe back and forth with Bush. Well congradulations, you have the argument abilities of a 5 year old ("You threw away your medals!" "Nuh uh!" "Uh huh!" "Nuh uh!")
There was a time, a couple months ago, when Kerry actually looked like a decent candidate.. he argued ISSUES, he argued "What I would do in the first 100 days if I were president.".
Nowadays he takes political potshots at Bush like standing up in public and saying "If I were president, I would not be the last one to know about what's going on."
Maybe I've watched too much West Wing, but you know what? I don't want EITHER candidate. I want a candidate who can run a POSITIVE campaign. I want to vote for a candidate who can tell me what he, personally, is about instead of one who wants you to know only the negative aspects of the other candidate. I want a candidate who is not afraid to go up and say "This is what I believe in and this is what I want to do with the presidency."
What I want most of all, what I have seen NO Candidate even OFFER is for someone to undue the damage Bush has DONE in the last four years. I want a candidate who wants us to get the frell out of Iraq because he KNOWS, just like more than 50% of the country (according to polls) knows, that this war is WRONG. I want a candidate who understands that there's more to Foreign Policy than who to blow up next and who to bully into helping us. I want a candidate who, while understanding the limits of the U.N., does not feel the need to just toss it out when it's not useful to them. While I don't mind a candidate who is deeply religious, I REALLY want a candidate that doesn't rule via divine inspiration (that's so 1600s.)
I want a candidate that believes in the need for a clean environment over the need for oil, gas and other polluting industries and who understands the power and potential of so-called "Green Technology." I want a candiate who truly understands the inherent power of education: not only to give our children a real future, but to create jobs, to keep the environment clean and to create a new generation of people who can continue to invent and develop a whole new set of reasons to keep America great.. not just technology, but music and art too.
And my dream candidate? The one I REALLY want but who I doubt I'll ever get.. is the one who does NOT believe corporations need and deserve the same rights as individual people. THIS is my Dream candidate because HE is the one that can help fix decades of damage done and bring us back to the Core Values that America was actually founded on (which was not, nor should ever be "A Coke in every fridge, two Fords in every garage and a Starbucks at every corner.")
This is a sham. The whole two party system shouldn't be about picking the less of two evils. it should be about picking the man you know is right for the job and who you believe will do a good job in office.
I'm sick to death of voting for the other guy because I KNOW that the incumbent's naught but a big fuck up :p
