Why I dislike UPS
Jun. 8th, 2004 04:12 pmYesterday was a long long day.
As I mentioned earlier, I was suffering from some sort of something or other. I thought it was inner ear infection, the nurse said it was vertigo, but this weekend I was having other odd symptoms.
It started Friday night when we went to see Harry Potter. I was tired, irritable and cranky.. but mostly I was hot. Just being near people made me feel hot. Kristen, who was cold and wearing a jacket commented that it seemed odd that my forehead wasn't hot, but that I was. In fact, she said my forehead was cold.
Fast forward to Sunday night when my bladder output suddenly and with no obvious reason increased.. alot.
Yesterday, at work, was terrible. I was in the bathroom at least once every half an hour and I'd swear my body was trying to commit suicide via draining all the water from my body. I kept going and going and within an hour, I'd developed a headache and a deep thirst that no amount of water or juice was filling (until about lunch time when I began to feel all the liquid I'd drunk because I was very overfull).
After lunch, I grabbed some white cran-strawberry juice from Safeway and downed half the bottle, which did seem to help.
And by that afternoon, I was better enough to get into a long fight with UPS.
Let me back up some.
So far, I've only dealt with UPS twice.. once while getting the DSL modem and this last time with a shipment from amazon.com (finally spent the gift certificate I got from
kareila for Christmas :) ).
The first time, the following happened..
I got a note on my door saying I had to sign IN PERSON (which meant that I had to be at home during the day to await the package). I signed the back and left a note requesting the delivery man to drop it off at the office where someone there would have signed for it.
The next day, I got a Second Attempt note double circling IN PERSON.
I once again signed the back, asking them again to please drop it off at the office.
The next day, Final Attempt.. gotta go to Landover to pick it up.
I was annoyed at it, but whatever. Picked up my DSL modem no problem and left.
Friday, the first notice for the amazon package arrives, once again IN PERSON is circled. Not only that, but SECOND DELIVERY had been checked, meaning the fucker skipped a delivery attempt.
Um.. wtf? Since when does amazon require that the actual person himself sign for the package? Me no think so, Dorko.
Whatever. I don't want to deal with this shit again.
So, I call up UPS and a) ask them when the first delivery was (they can't answer and I suggest, crassly, that's because perhaps there wasn't one?) and then b) request that the package be left for me in Landover again and I'll go pick it up monday.
No problem, say they. We can do that.
I call again yesterday because I forgot the directions to the place at home and requested they give me the address to the UPS building, which they did and confirmed that I had asked the package be left there.
So I run over right after work yesterday, wait in line, get my turn and... the package was put on a UPS truck. The final attempt had been at 5:10 PM.
So, and I make this very clear to the guy behind the counter, despite my asking that the package be left here, someone went and put it back on the UPS truck anyways?
The guy apologized and I couldn't be mad at him because it probably wasn't his fault, but I did request a number to complain. I got two.. the official national number from the guy behind the counter and the local office number from a customer behind me who had heard my complaints and had had similair problems before she called.
I get home, seriously pissed off that I was jumping through a shitload of hoops AGAIN to get my package, and then call the national company, telling them, very specifically, my complaints from both times with this UPS driver. She was understanding, wrote up the complaint and made an urgent note to have the local office call me.
They did, about 30-40 minutes and I voice my complaints to them and they offered to let me pick it up at 8:30 last night, pick it up after work today or maybe have it delivered to work. Thinking about it, I decided picking it up myself was still best. I didn't want to have it delivered to work since that didn't seem right and I didn't trust them not to throw it on a UPS truck again tommorow.
So at 8:30 at night, I drove to Landover, waited in line with about 10 other people, retrieved my package, opened it to make sure it was all there (it was. God bless Amazon.) and went home and started watching one of the DVDs.
What did I get from Amazon?
Well, I finally got the Gigantic DVD, I got "Indestructable Object" (the latest TMBG single), the Weird Al Video Collection DVD and "Munchkin's Guide to Power Gamers".
A good booty and it only cost me about $25 with tax :) (thanks to that $30 gift certificate *smooches at Kar*)
In summary, I don't like being sick and I REALLY don't like UPS at the moment.
Fin.
