So, for those people living vicariously through my life (or at least vaguely interested), yes I did get to to go the concert today.
I swear I had to go against the very gods themselves to do it (I know I cussed them out at least twice the last two days. I hope they have a sense of humor about this.), but dammit I went.
I had to start early, about 5:00, walk to school, get a bus to the South Campus, take the train to Amherst Street and then take a bus to Amherst and Grant.
A long journey, but well worth it.
Got to the door on time. There was a line outside slowly moving in. Got inside, found a place to put my jacket and bag, got a drink and waited for the opening act.
1:15 after stepping into the theatre, the opening act starts. The opening act.. The Family Tractenberg may well have been the funniest and yet coolest thing I've seen in a long time. Their shtick is, they buy old slides people are giving away and make songs out of them. Enthralled by the idea and, frankly, laughing at the songs and the guy (he had definite stage presence), I bought the CD. I may post them on my ftp site for any and all interested parties.
They get off stage, we wait around, we dance.. and about 30 minutes after They come on stage.
First of all, to any and all of you that dislike the Band of Dans, Stuff you, K? This will probably be the most hardcore rocking show I have ever gone to and it's all because of Guitair Dan (Dan Hickey?) who REALLY knows how to wail it.
I wanted to keep a set list, but I didn't. I can tell you this was definately the No! concert because they did MANY songs from No: No!, In the Middle In The Middle In the Middle, Bed Bed Bed, Sleepwalkers, Violin, Robot Parade (Their hard version that you've heard if you have TMBG Unlimited), Four of Two, Clap Your Hands, and John Lee Supertaster.
They also did a hell of a rockin version of Man, It's So Loud In Here, and Guitair Dan really wailed it with Istanbul.
What else did they play? In no particular order:
Birdhouse, of course. Particle Man, Dead, Fingertips, Cyclops Rock, Older, Drink!, Dig My Grave (two guys tried to start a mosh pit and we all parted around them. Idiots.), New York City, James K. Polk, Why Does The Sun Shine, On the Drag...
No Ana Ng, No Statue Got me High. No My Man. Not even No One Knows My Plan. Dammitall.
I wish they'd played a two hour show instead of an hour and a half show, alas...
Flans really knows how to work the crowd. He acts like, honestly, a really dorky rock start. And he's getting pudgy.
And Linnell still looks like he's in his 30s.
So the show KICKED ASS and I am now ready to go to sleep.

Hasta, folksies!

*laughs* You meant vicariously, not precariously, you silly pixie. Glad you had fun.
