For those who follow my journal, this will be the first time in a while that you've seen this particular icon.
There's a very good reasonof it. I haven't been in the gym for a while.
Why, you ask? It's a good question. I'm asking the same thing myself.
It really started this summer, when it was too hot to be in the gym. It honestly WAS too hot to be in the gym as there was no air conditioning and, well, even for a fairly large gym.. all that sweating and stuff...
So I bought a bike and made a few forays into the outdoors, but not many and I stopped working my muscles, more or less, entierly.
So why not go back this fall, with the temperatures down?
I had a thousand different reasons. I was tired, my contacts were giving me problems, my body ached (and it did, honestly, ache).
What it came down to was that I haven't really been to the gym in a couple months and, of course, I've put on weight.
How much? No idea. Enough that my grandmother can see it in my face. Enough that I just know.
I haven't looked at the scale. I'm, honestly, afraid to. I don't want to see how much I've put on.

So why am I back?
Because my grandmother said how the weight gain was showing in my face saturday night.

And so I'm back in the diet. Today I was in there for 39 minutes. I wanted it to be longer, but by the time 11:30 had rolled around, all the treadmills (that were working) were used by people who would be on for at least 10 minutes and I just didn't want to wait.
I also worked out my arms and shoulders.
Unfortunately, my left shoulder sort of hurts, but I'm hoping it feels better tommorow.
If not, I'll probably just try to do cardio and leave the weight lifting alone until it stops aching.
In retrospect, I maybe should have taken it slightly easier since it was my first day back in a while, but... well, frankly, I'm dumb like that. :) Perhaps one of my typically male traits.
It was nice to be in the gym again. Not that I really enjoy the actual working out aspect, but it's good to do this for myself.
There are, really, a million reasons for me to go to the gym regularly: Weight Loss, Better Health, Sleeping Better, Feeling Better.. etc.
There's only a handful of reasons to not go, and most of them aren't any good.

So, anyways...I'm back. And I intend to continue to be back 6 days a week (I always take a day off. Trust me, after working 6 days in the gym, you need it. At the moment, it's Sundays so that I can watch the Bills. After the next couple games.. I dunno...)
I'm thinking what I'll do is work out, watch my diet and peak at the scale on the 31st, to see how much weight I need to lose the upcoming year.
That is, if my curiosity doesn't get the best of me. I DO like to know how much I'm losing while in the gym.

So, anyways, I'm going to post near-daily.. but not here (since I know, by and large, you guys just couldn't care.). I'll probably post in [livejournal.com profile] healthypeople, if they're cool with it (and I suspect they will be.).

Ciao folksies!

woo gym again!

I've been considering beginning to go to a gym and working on my diet, not necessarily to restrict massively what I can eat, but to try to eat more healthy and less non-healthy... work on myself physically. I just gotta figure out where, I'll have to setup a schedule sometime this week or next.

Anyways, I hope it goes well. And you're grandmother shouldn't be the main reason you're going back. ;p

You and me both. I really slacked this semester, but I remained pretty constant, weight-wise. Which only shows that if I HAD been better about going, I'd be so much closer to my goal.

Good luck with things, this time around!

Hey, good luck with the whole gym thing. Me, I'm going to see about actually getting into Tai Chi. Got a book, and maybe that'll be enough. Who knows?

Good luck. Tell me how you like. I've considered Tai Chi, but I'm somehow afraid I'd manage to trip over my own feet and hurt myself. :)

Hmm btw it sounds like you need a new gym! No air conditioning and broken equipment? Sheesh. I work at a gym, though admittedly a higher class gym where ppl driving porche's work out, but I've learned about all the other gyms in my county from people talking or gossiping and they may have there issues but no air conditioning and broken equipment..and you made it sound like it was a regular thing..my goodness. It really might be worth looking at other gyms even if its more expensive. I've learned quickly that its worth the extra money when it goes towards really good equipment thats well kept and a nice range of machines to use as well as classes and services. The classes are the best part..they really push you wheres self paced workouts sometimes don't as much. Cycling classes are the most popular and they are intense and really get a great workout. When the parents come back to pick up there kids without taking a shower, as I work in the day care part of the club, they are drenched in sweat and rave about the class. =)

Heh, I go to this gym because it's free. It's the school gym.
When I get out into the real world, I intend to look into a gym again and for whatever price I pay, I expect things like air conditioning, more cardio machines and little to no broken equipment, but for the price I pay (whatever fee they charge to all the students...very little, I'm sure, going to the weight room), I'll deal.
