It's finally time to leave mp3.com
I've put up with plenty of their shit, taking a week to get my music OK'd, not getting paid for the CDs bought for me yet (since.. no one buys them)
But I'm not putting up with this...

(direct quote from the last mp3.com email)
Artist Pages Will Display Three Songs Maximum. After January 31, 2003 only Premium Artists can display an unlimited amount of songs on their Artist page. Basic (non-Premium) Artists can display a maximum of three songs on their Artist page. On January 31, all Basic Artist pages with four or more songs will automatically default to display the three most recently uploaded songs. However, the Song Admin allows Artists to quickly and easily change the songs they would like displayed.

Thanks, but no. The only reason I continue to host my songs there is that I could put nearly all my songs (so long as they didn't have copyrighted material on them *cough* Illudium *cough* ) up.
And I sure as fuck ain't paying them money to keep my songs up. Especially with the number of hits I get now.

Well, congratulations, the Corporate Bastards have totally ruined what mp3.com was about.
Bastards.

Now I guess to find out if anyone does what mp3.com used to do or whether I should just start hosting songs on my ftp site and let those of you who (like <lj site="livejournal.com" user="xb95">) want to distribute the better songs among their peers.
Bastards.

I can do that, absolutely, except for two things.
1) I'd have to keep my ftp site up all the time, which frankly I don't do because some BOTS seem to keep finding it and doing.. odd things on it.. looking for folders that aren't there or trying to upload things to folders not deigned upload.
2) What mp3.com has that a random website probably won't was an entire community of artists. So you might be searching for something cool from one artist, go to a link off their page and find something else cool.

I doubt, in all honesty, I could ever truly replace mp3.com. I may even leave my newest of new songs there, but I still want a community, if one exists, to host ALL my music.
