Well life in the LITE household is... interesting.

Starting with myself.
Actually, of everyone, my life is the most "boring".
I took a break from SimCity 4 to work on something else for a while and went back to working on my mp3 list.
I'm currently at about 4750 MP3s and am still going blissfully around.

It occurs to me... 4750 MP3s.
11 days and nearly 4 hours of music.
And I'm not done.
The question is.. how much of this will I really listen to?
And the answer is.. all of it. At different times and in different moods, I will listen to pretty much every tune in my collection.
I'm such an audiophile
If I was a dragon, I wouldn't sleep on a pile of gold, I'd sleep on a pile of CDs.
Heh. Actually, the image amuses me.. especially cause I can see it.
Seriously, though, I collect music. I don't think there's much I ever liked that I still don't like. Whether it's early 90s rap, PDQ Bach, Classical, Oldies...
The only trick is that I have to transfer my music list to my own computer as queech is going down for... well either a little while or the summer. Regardless, I am NOT putting all 4750 MP3s back into the list. Too much work!
The downside is that I won't be able to see what I have from work. Which... isn't the end of the world.
That's what's going on in MY life.
Oh, also, I'm finally getting (I hope) the dent banged out of my car and my car reinspected.

Now, onto the car front.. my brother got the short end of a really nasty stick.
His car.. well, when it was bought for him a little over a year ago, we weren't thrilled. The company was bankrupt and hence parts were difficult to get. It had over 45,000 miles on it for only two years of use.
It's run into a whole host of problems... emission controls were dead before he got the car, the alarm on the car was installed by the previous owner as was a radio. Badly. Badly enough that getting new alarm and radio were made difficult. The previous owner never gave the key to the trunk.
So.. let's start the long story.
About three weeks ago, Josh suddenly swerved off the road. When I say suddenly, he didn't hit anything first.. just swerved.
He called AAA and they saw the problem immediately.. two of the tires were totally flat.
So he called and had the car towed to Pep Boys (a local mechanic that does a little bit of everything.) He'd always gone there.. in part because it was close to him and dad.. in part because that's where dad took it to be inspected.
The tires were both unfixable. Also, Josh needed an alignment Pep Boys could not do.
So Josh asked for new tires and it was found out that the tire size josh asked for was the wrong size. In fact, the tools in the back were the wrong size and the tire in the back was the wrong size. So Josh was all "whatever. Just put the RIGHT size on."
And they do.
The moment Josh gets out of Pep Boys, the steering wheel begins to shake. Josh put that down to needing that alignment. Came home and made an appointment with his dealer (it's operating basically out of chevrolet) to get the alignment done.
Fast forward about a week and a half. No alignment yet.
Josh was driving home when he heard (I guess) a noise he didn't like from under him. Pulled into a parkinglot and kicked his tires. Nothing.
Started pulling out and the tire flew off.
Luckily, he was in the parking lot and only going about 5 mph when it did.
So.. we're all pissed (none of us more than Josh.).
The tire should NOT just come off on it's own. Pep Boys must have screwed up.
So Josh gets the car towed to Pep Boys and demand they fix their mistake. They look at it and say "Well, he must have hit something. It wasn't our fault."
Which is pure Bullshit.
We call my uncle who happens to be a Superviser for Canadian Tire (and has worked in the Tire business for about 30 years). Josh tells him the circumstances of the tire coming off.. the tire having just been changed, the wheel rattling around and then the tire falling off.
Uncle Jeff says there's absolutely no way that this could be Josh's fault. He feels Pep Boys screwed up. They tightened the tires by hand when they SHOULD have tightened it mechanically.
So Josh is going to sue Pep Boys in small claims court to cover the costs involved for getting his car back up on the road.
Meanwhile... (yes there's more)... Josh is just fed up with the stupid car.
It'll cost $1000 to get the car fixed. Personally, Josh would rather they go look at a new car.
At one point, the day of the tire falling off, Dad talked seriously about junking the car and looking at a new Kia.
But (surprirse, surprise), dad has reneged on that. He'd rather put the old one back on the road.
So the car is now at the dealership, waiting for parts.. which.. could be here anytime between Friday and next year.

My mom...
Mom's life is boring.. utterly and too boring.
She's been holed up in the house for over a month with a secondary respiratory infection that refused to go away.
My mom always gets a secondary infection after she gets sick in any way.
She got sick in January.. it never went away.
She's been to the doctors many times over the past few weeks. Finally, between a culture she took a week ago and a trip to the hospital, they confirmed regular antibiotics weren't working.
So she's not on an IV drip she's gotta take twice a day for ten days.
We started Friday night.
It's not terrible, except for the fact that we have to hole ourselves up in her room during the entire process (which takes about 45 minutes) because the cats seem to keep getting in things and that's not terribly hygenic.
I really really hope that this IV drip does it and she'll FINALLY be healthy again. I'm sort of sick of her being sick.
Not that I'm a big fan of running around the city with her nearly every day during the week. I don't have the patience unless I'm shopping for myself.
But she's not much fun when she's sick and I miss the well her.
So.. hopefully.

And that's what's going on in my life.
This post is.. alot longer than I expected it to be. So I'll just quit here.
Ciao folksies

Hope your mom feels better dear. Small claims court sounds like the right place to take this car issue. What I would suggest is possibly getting your uncle to sign a statement that says (1) he's been in the tire business for 30 someodd years. (2) He has XYZ knowledge about tires. (3) The tire could not have possibly come off like that through driver error.
Your biggest problem will be that he was driving the car despite that he knew it needed to be realligned, but either way the judge/arbitrator will probably order Pep boys to give back the money for whatever they charged to put the new wheels on, which is something. Plus if Pep Boys doesn't show up to the court, you win automatically in NY Small Claims Court.
I would also lodge a complaint with the better business bureau as against Pep Boys.

It is? I hadn't heard anything about that. *tries to figure out alternate arrangements for webpage things*

Oh, also, I'm finally getting (I hope) the dent banged out of my car and my car reinspected.

Is it gonna stop being loud too, or is that a separate thing? Good luck with it, in any case.

I'm glad you posted. I've missed hearing from you.

Heh. Heh heh heh.

I've hated Pep Boys ever since they laid off my father. He was head of their network department, until the day they gave him a pink slip and an hour to pack his things. It took him nine months to find another job, and while I realise this is par for the course in today's wintery economic climate, I will never forgive them for it. So, good luck to your brother with his court case.

And I hope your mother feels better, too.

IANAL, but I think life-endangering stuff like that could be considered criminal negligence.

it probably could.
At this point, what we really want is for Pep Boys to pay A) the money josh payed for their fuck up job the first time and B) for the money that will be paid to get the car fixed.
We could go into criminal negligence, but since Josh isn't hurt, we'll probably stick this path.

I wouldn't go near Pep Boys with a 40 foot poll anymore.
Luckily, I already had my own mechanic. I've used them once and only once and I shan't again...

We think the noise is that there's a hole in my muffler.
When I get it inspected, I'll ask them to check it out.
Hopefully, it'll be ALL FIXED shortly...

Things get better.
The Daewoo dealership has the car now.
They confirmed Uncle Jeff's analysis (pep boys screwed up) and they'll put it in writing.
So, that's a good thing.

I'll suggest we contact the BBB. Thanks for the idea!

Sorry, no such cause of action in New York State for something like this. THey may have something like that in other states though.

Certainly, Pep Boys have had a whole bunch of complaints filed against them!
