Jun. 18th, 2002 07:42 amQuick Newsflash for everyone and then I gotta go.
My computer died a terrible death last night :P
Well, not dead dead, but I gotta go and get damned Windows reinstalled.
It's my fault, really. IE said "Hey, do you wanna go to IE6" and I said SURE! despite the fact that the computer HAS been acting funky lately.
So... apparently a necessary DLL is missing and you CAN'T just reload the DLL, oh no.. you have to reload Windows!
So, I brought the computer over to CompUSA and he's like "Where's your original Windows disk?" I don't have one. It's a homebuilt. The original had the chernobyl virus all over it and I chucked it. I have a bunch of upgrades, though "Well, sir, we can't help you..."
*blink*
Why?!?! They reinstalled Windows ME on the computer once already.
I think the guy was just being an asshole.
So... I have two choices.. neither of which I can deal with today (going to Rochester in 45 minutes and all)
A) Go back to CompUSA and talk to the Service Manager.
or
B) See if UB Micro (who has an agreement with Microsoft where I can get most Microsoft products for free, as I'm a student) can either fix it or give me a base copy of Win XP or Win 2000 to put on my machine.
I'm sure, one way or the other, I'll get it fixed again.
But... christ.. what an asshole that guy from CompUSA was. :P
Anyways... the point to this meandering is that my computer access is now limited to school (which, keep in mind, I haven't seen much of lately due to being part of this Great Lakes Summer Institute) and logging into AOL from my mom's computer (which I have access to only when she's not at home or when it's a dire emergency). So... I'll try to keep up with everyone's LJ and email, but otherwise.. I wouldn't expect to see much of me until I get MY computer fixed.
So... that's it.
See y'all laters.
Hope I don't die from computer withdrawal, all :P
