hkellick: Pittsburgh, City of Bridges (Default)
Well... tommorow I shall be in Chicago. I think I'm ready. I still have a handful of worries. For example, getting from the airport to the hotel, preferably without paying for a taxi cab. One of the two presenters, Jean, looks a bit sick and if she has the same thing I had, she could be in REALLY rough shape for Sunday and I may end up presenting (and I have no idea whether there's any basis behind that or just pure speculation, but I guess I'm ready just in case.)
I'm a little disconcerted (or perhaps simply "weirded out" with the idea of sharing a hotel with three others.. especially given that one of them will most likely be a girl. Part of it is that I'm vaguely afraid someone's going to see some disgusting "private" side to me that they don't normally see at school. I dunno. I think I just dislike the idea of sharing a hotel room with a girl I'm not *ahem*ing with. Even knowing nothing will happen, I'm not thrilled.
I'm really looking forward to this weekend. As much because, by and large, I like seeing new cities (pity, then, that I don't know how much time I'll have to explore Chicago) as I'm looking forward to seeing how we do in the design competition and, honestly, more than that... being able to go around the over 850 vendor displays, see what there is to see and collect LOTS and LOTS of free crap: pens, pads, highlighters... whatever they offer. I dunno why, but I enjoy collecting that stuff.
It's kind of... odd.. to be going to Chicago and realizing that... I know no one down there. I mean, after being on the internet as long as I have been, you begin to think you know people everywhere. I have friends in Boston, New York, Atlanta, San Fran, Seattle... but apparently I know no one in Chicago. That's just WEIRD.
So... I got my Fill-it-ins yesterday. There was a deal from Penny Press. Give them, like, $7 and I'll get 8 Fill-It-In magazines. I love Fill-It-Ins, especially the rather difficult variety fill-it-ins. I got three of those (Hooray), two double issues and three regular old fill-it-in magazines. I'm hoping the regular old fill-it-ins have difficult puzzles, I enjoy the challenge :) The one I opened last night had one that was fairly difficult and one that was too easy, so I dunno yet :) Timing couldn't be better, tho.. I'll take one of those magazines with me to Chicago :)
Did I mention the bookmark Josh got me? No, I don't think so. Josh, on Tuesday? went to the mall and found, for like $5 a Lord of the Ring bookmark WITH an "Actual" One Ring. It's rather cute and I like it. Josh is really good at doing those small things. He'll make some lady really happy one day.
Perhaps one of the lapdancers he'll meet Thursday.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen on October 3, Josh will turn 19. So two people at work are taking him up to Canada to a strip bar to get his very first lapdance. Of course, Josh is rather excited about this. Bless Josh and his overactive hormones.
Mom, needless to say, is less than thrilled, but is.. accepting enough she hasn't stopped him. I think she told my father, though, to make sure he has a little chat with Josh about things before Thursday.
To me, the best part was mom making sure Josh know the prime rule last night (Don't Touch). There was something a little surreal about that conversation.
Ah well, life ticks on in my world.
Dunno if I'll post before I leave. If I don't, I'll post when I get back.
Ciao, folksies.
