I think another student in our program, I won't give the name.. may have failed his PhD.. and this bothers me.
As I understand it, you have five years to finish with your PhD. If you don't finish it in that long, you.. fail.
This is his fifth year. He gave his presentation Monday morning.
The student who saw it (most of us thought it was the afternoon. Ooops :p) said she thought he did OK, but they stayed in the room for 5 or 6 hours and I've heard rumors that one of his equations.. one of the base equations in his work.. was just wrong.
I guess what bothers me most about that is the fact that he has three smart advisors who have seen a few drafts of this work before he presented it... and none of them noticed the mistake until Monday.
And of those three advisors, two are my Masters Advisors. :p

Saw [livejournal.com profile] ecwoodburn yesterday, which was really nice. (trying not to be too cutesy here, folks ;) )
Her friend Beth from Illinois came over and was here by 5:00, we went off to the Olive Garden, had a nice dinner and an interesting conversation, came back, played with cats (hee! Beth WAS going to just "sit there" on the couch, but I offered the opportunity to grab a teaser and play with cats (god knows we have enough of them) and off she went! ;) ), came back and played Chez Geek (which remains one of my favorite games EVER!) and then they had to leave pretty early.
It was nice meeting Beth and seeing [livejournal.com profile] ecwoodburn again. Can't wait until Saturday.

Finally saw my friend Dave again.. Monday night.
I hadn't spoken to him since his bithday party in April where we spent hours just gutting each other open, verbally. (Great fun! :) )
Unfortunately, Dave just never calls people. If you want to hang out with the man, YOU call HIM. (He might call you back.)
That annoys me a bit. It always has.
I caught up to some of his friends sometime about a month ago who confirmed he was being antisocial and just not really talking to anyone.
So I let him slide.
I caught him outside Subway Monday.. he's feeling more social now, which is nice.
We exchanged AIM addies (well, he gave me his and I AIM'd him yesterday). Hopefully we'll go see Charlies Angels 2 tonight. :)

Had a fight with [livejournal.com profile] xb95 two nights ago. I was really grumpy and he was grumpy and I lit up on him.
I dunno, I guess it really annoyed me with the comment about sometimes being silly isn't appropriate. I guess at the time, I was being silly as a.. barrier from being grumpy and unhappy. Like a defense mechanism.
It didn't hold too long and I ended up lighting into Mark.
I'm really sorry I snipped at you, Mark. I hope this stupidity can be forgiven.

There's something else here.
But, upon further consideration, I'll leave it to be dealt with on a more private venue.

With that, I go back to bed.
