My first day at work
Dec. 5th, 2003 11:11 pmSo... I started working 3B today. I was supposed to be training for register, but I got there to find out.. I wasn't. They needed me to work "Hardside" (Cooking Utensils and Gadgets, Kitchen Linens, Pictures and Frames, Candles). I had.. NO Idea what to do but I was told to do it.
Um... OK. So I spent an hour wandering up to people and saying in my friendliest voice "Hi. Can I help you?", not that I could really help them because I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS DOING.
It was interesting and I hope I never have that particular experience again.
After that, Kyle, the manger, got the guy who was supposed to train me, Mark, to train me. We spent the next 3 1/2 hours moving stock from the top of the shelves to the shelves where necessary and bring things up to the front so that the shelves looked full. It was pretty easy stuff, and frankly extremely boring, especially when all I had to listen to was farqing Christmas Music.
It was pretty easy work except for when someone needed help. I'm getting a hang of what is where in my section of the store. (Kristen if you ever want to get Yankee Candles, come to 3B. They've got a few really nummy smelling ones that I may end up grabbing a small candle cause.. well.. they smell good.)
So 9:30 comes and the store closes. That's when I stop getting bored because hardside is OK but both people who worked stock (Mark and Larissa) spent more time helping people at their registers and less time stocking their areas, so we all help Larissa stock softside. Finally at 10:30, things wind down and we're shooting the shit while folding towels. They seem like nice people.
In related news, I dodged a bullet at work. Since I wasn't trained as a chashier today and still need to, he asked if I could come in Sunday to work. I said when and he said 9 AM and I'm like "Erk. No. Hope to be seeing Kristen then (assuming she's OK with it)." asked if I could do it later without giving a reason and now i'm working 12 - 8. So... I'll get 8 more hours and I'll still be able to see Kristen. It'll be cut a LITTLE short, but she would have needed to leave about noon anyways, so.. it's only 15 minutes or so. (Again, assuming she does what I hope she does.)
So... at least come tommorow I have a better idea what needs to be done.
Much loves to my Kristen. I'm tired and I think I'm going to go to bed.
