So today was, in fact, the first full day of the rest of my life.
Luckily, I can say it was a much better day than yesterday. The worst thing I can say about it is that I got maybe four hours of sleep between last night and waking up this morning. The room is too hot, I turn the fan on low and it's way too cold. So I turn it off and it's too hot again. Hopefully I can figure something better out for today because the not sleeping thing is suck.
Part of it is I think I'm wired with all the excitement about picking out an apartment, starting out a new life etc.
So I woke up at 4:30 AM, saw
trillain and chatted briefly with her and started playing AOL's version of Solitaire.. then read.. then tried sleeping, but failed again.. so played more Solitaire and read some more etc. etc. etc.
Gave up on sleeping and took a shower and ate an early breakfast (the hotel offers complimentary breakfast) and then was up to call PBS&J at 8:00 AM about why they hadn't paid for the room. The person I needed to speak with wasn't in yet, so I left a message and went off to the grocery store to get stuff (lunches, yogurt, snacks etc. The only thing I didn't pick up and still need to figure out is dinner as the freezer is tiny here. I haven't figured out what to do about it since eating out every night is not only dumb, but expensive.)
The girl from PBS&J called while I was there and told me she'd get a check together ASAP and call the manager of the hotel about it. OK. Fair enough.
While in the car, on the way home, I start tuning into Maryland Radio Stations. I've already picked out six of them (the only six I can program into my car), an oldies station, a couple of mix stations, an altnerative and an all-rock station. I am happy:)
Get back with the groceries and run over to the nearby Best Buy to get a CD cleaner for my computer, DVD player (for reasons I don't understand, I can't get the DVD player to accept either DVDs or CDs. I think I'm going to need to take it into CompUSA in the near future if I want that fixed :p ) and MP3 CD Player.
Then I run back out to look at apartments. I start off at
Foxfirein Laurel and decide I like it. It's obvious someone's tried to fix the rooms up to be nice. The carpet is clean, possibly new. The rooms freshly painted, everything spic and span. It's byootiful :)
So I then head off to my 10:00 appointment with
Fox Rest Woods which I don't like as much because everything looks so old.. the cabinets look worn, the floors hardwood.. it just didn't look..as good.
So I came back to the apartment, filled out the application for Foxfire and filled out the checks, called Kristen and told her about the apartments and my day and then ran out to give my application to Foxfire and get my car to the local Ford dealership.
I got my car over there no problem and they looked at it. About an hour and a half later, I was back on the road and told that the part that I had SPECIFICALLY asked West Herr Ford to check back in Amherst (as it was listed as a Ford Recall on my specific car) when we bought the car, the Stop Lamp Switch... had failed, along with a fuse. Luckily, since they were under recall, I didn't have to pay for any of the work and my car is back up.
So, with the car fixed, I run out to Adelphi to make my 2:00 appointment with
Hampshire Village. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything available until April 1st and they didn't have any apartments for me to look into and decide for myself with, so with that knowledge, I scratched that one off my list.
Then from there, I headed into Hyatsville to check out
Cheverly Crossing. I really like this one too.. it's more spacious than Foxfire, the rugs are new, the microwave 2 years old while the oven is 4. All that and it's cheaper (Rent would be about $800 and includes all utilities except cable and phone) and despite what
xeren suggests, the neighborhood here does not look too bad at all. I can't speak for all of Hyatsville, but these apartments seem nice.
So I thought I'd explore the neighborhood for a while (it turns out that it's right next to an elementary school and a few miles from a big new mall and a few miles (other direction, I think) to the stadium the redskins play in.
So I filled out an application there too. I think between the two, I might like Cheverly a little bit better as it's bigger and cheaper But I want to check out the neighborhood a bit more.. perhaps tommorow.
Mom called while I was driving and I talked to her for a few minutes but told her I'd call her tonight.
So I got home, hung out online for a little bit and then decided I'd check out the local Laurel Mall to get a map, a new game I want (Worms 3D), plus see what else is there. It was.. much smaller and MUCH deader than I expected. The best thing I can say about it was there was a small arcade near the food court where I got to play DDR Max 2 :D
So I bought Worms 3D, ate some horrible food from Sbarro's (tommorow I'm buying dinner and making it here. Cheaper and, I hope, better.) and came home to log on and tell you all about my day.
Now I'm going to go log off and play Worms 3D before calling mom and getting a 12:30 call from Kristen (I hope).
Love to my dork :)
Off I go.
