Me First and the Gimme Gimmes: Self Described "Best Cover Band In The World" - They've done covers of everything from The Rainbow Connection to Blowin' In The Wind to Hello to Uptown Girl.
Apparently they do Bar Mitzvahs too, or at least one.
This album is an actual live recording (very obvious) from the Bar Mitzvah of a guy named Johnny. Everything on this album is new (i.e., not on other CDs), if not all entierly fleshed out yet. (sadly)
But it's Me First and I had to get it, and, for myself, I have to review it, so...

It's live, obviously live, there's everything from song breaks to the band joking around with each other to a portion where two people get up and sing/play with the band. Still, a pretty good album. :)

1) Jonny's Blessing - To prove (maybe?) that this is really a live recording, they added the bit where Jonny actually sings his blessings. Why? Only the Gimmes know, but here it is. Skip on.
2) Stairway to Heaven - The moment I saw they were covering Stairway, I HAD to get this album. Sadly, this is the one song that isn't fully fleshed out. They cover only the first verse and a half. But, fuck, I wish they'd do more. They turned the otherwise slow first part of Stairway into something that rocks as hard as the second part. THEY NEED TO FINISH THIS SONG!
3) Heart of Glass - OK, this song already rocks (I may be biased here :) ), they rocked it out a little bit more and quickened the pace. Not their best cover, but not terrible.
4) Delta Dawn - I don't know the original. All Music Guide says it's a country song *shrug* A pretty decent cover. This one could be cleaned up a bit and added to a record. I can't help but chuckle, though,
when Spike "bitches Joey out" for modulating out of his range. :)
5) Come Sail Away - ALRIGHT. THIS is the Gimmes at their best. Taking an already cool Styx song and really rocking it out. One of the best covers on this album :) Come on, it's Styx. It has to rock ;)
6) O Solo Mio - They're punking up an italian song, one I've only heard in passing. It's not bad, but I don't care for it as much, I suspect, as a song I know.
7) Strawberry Fields Forever - Good Cover. They stop at the beginning of the song of the first time, make a few amusing comments and restart. I hope they rerecord and clean up the song. Good Cover, though. Another of the keepers from this album. Just, you know, clean it up a little, K? :)
8) Auld Lang Syne - I've already heard a rock cover of Auld Lang Syne. The Gimmes don't do a BAD cover, but it lacks.. something. Not their best work.
9) The Longest Time - Ok. I KNOW I'm not impartial, but I love Billy Joel and this is a great cover of a great song :) Possibly my favorite song on the album. Hee :)
10) On My Mind - OK. I'm partial. I like the Pet Shop Boys best of all. This is a cover of the Willie Nelson version, which, as we all know, is far too slow. This doesn't have what the Pet Shop Boys has. it's not BAD.. just not as good as Pet Shop Boys.
11) Take It On The Run - Dude, they're doing REO Speedwagon!! Pretty damn good cover, too! :)
12) Superstar - Another cover of a song I don't know. This one is pretty good. I wonder what the original sounds like.
13) Hava Nagila - Actually, I dislike this cover. Maybe they tried too hard or they didn't do it well enough, but.. I don't think it worked as well as they hoped. Ah well.
14) Hava Nagila (Christmas Arrangement) - Proving to the world that the Gimmes have a seriously warped sense of humor, they rearrange Hava Nagila, to Feliz Navidad. This one's actually better, IMHO, then their cover of the original. After 5 minutes of silence, the band gets on stage and we're "Treated" to Uncle Roger singing Seasons in the Sun in Fresh (he's terrible) and then Jonny do a drum solo to Sloop John B. (He's better.)

And that's the CD. Tis OK, but not their best offering.
