iPod Name?
Jun. 10th, 2005 09:05 amI'm missing my iPod in a bad, bad way. I've worked with alot of music players: At home I have my desktop, of course and iTunes.. and a three CD-changer player. I've owned walkmen, discmen, minidiscs, flash players, mp3/cd players.. and nothing comes close to the sheer.. utility of an iPod.
Let's ignore the fact that it's small, white and oddly cute.
I have never seen something that holds so much music in such a compact space.
A tape can hold up to 90 minutes of music, but can crackle, catch and be difficult to work with, especially nowadays with tapes out.
A CD can hold 74 minutes of music or 700 MB, and you can play pretty much everywhere, but my old mp3/cd player skips and crackles on half the mp3s for some reason and my burner is funny in that sometimes I get a "Bad burn" and my mp3/cd player can't play half the tracks all the way through.
Don't get me started on minidiscs. Sizewize, they only can a CD worth of music or so, and they're far too delicate. :p They are small, though, and that's a plus when you're on the go.
I've had flash players that can hold 256 Meg of music and play it seamlessly and beautifully. And they're small and not as delicate. If I couldn't get the iPod replaced, I'd have gone for an iPod shuffle, which is a flash player.
But the iPod... no crackling (unless the mp3 is bad and MOST of mine are not. And anything off the iTunes store is perfect.), fits inside of a pocket and it contains nearly ALL of my music.. not 700 megs, not 74 minutes... nearly ALL of my music.
I feel like playing TMBG? Can do. Carbon Leaf? The Eagles? Fleetwood Mac? Can do. I feel like playing my ONE Worm Quartet mp3 over and over? Can do that too. Feel like playing all my 80s hits or 70s hits or today's hits? No problem.
It was the ultimate in pocket-sized jukeboxes and NOTHING I have comes even close to it.
Hopefully it gets replaced soon... I miss it :(
