This is my place. Mine. All mine. My cats. My DVDs. My computer. My stuff.
I finally feel like this place is my home and that is a good feeling.

So let me go back to Thursday.
As many of you know already, my girlfriend lost her job Thursday. This was (rather obviously) very upetting to both of us. She wept and I felt terrible for her. We decided that it might be best if she came down Thursday night instead of Friday. This turned out to be for the best, but let me get to that point first.
My flight ends up being a half an hour late due to mechanical trouble in the place it was arriving from (Tampa, I think. Or maybe Orlando.). Not a big deal, but annoying.
So Kristen picks me up and home we go.

Friday comes and Cousin Freddie calls at 8:00 asking when to get the show on the road. I suggested 10:00 was good since I figured that was when Uncle Alan would be up by. And of course Uncle Alan calls at 9:00 to tell us he has a doctor's appointment and we could come by about noon.
So I tell Freddie and he insists on coming anyways (he's in a rush to get in and done and start driving down so that he's in Maryland nice and early Saturday.) and getting what we can in. Meanwhile, I had told all my helpers we'd be ready to start moving at 2, so it was just Kristen and I.
Freddie comes, comes into the house and within 5 minutes is coughing so badly he can hardly breathe. We knew he was allergic to cats, but not THAT bad. So Freddie can't go inside. That means it's definately only Kristen and I. Until we call my brother Marc who my grandma picks up and brings over.
While grandma gets Marc, Kristen and I start on bedroom furniture, but that's too much for Kristen, so we start piling up boxes instead.
Marc arrives and Kristen begins packing up last minute things (pictures, mirror etc.) and cleaning my room as much as she can while Marc and I manage to get everything but the couch in the basement into the van. The couch is way too heavy for us (my arm still aches a little from trying) alone, so we leave it for Josh.
Meanwhile, it's time to go to Uncle Alan, who has apparently been busy and found a few more things he was willing to give away since we last talked. He hands me a box of STUFF.. knives, napkin holder, some VERY odd shaped pots etc., plus a very comfortable lazy boy and the stuff I had intended to take (dinette set, glass bookshelf etc.)
Get that all loaded in with little problem and back home where Josh is now waiting. Together we get the couch in, the cat tower, the bike and numerous other important things
Then Freddie drives off with the van and the rest of us wait to decide what to do.
Kristen and I do errands while mom sleeps. Then after mom wakes up, we made a quick dinner and go to see Josh's musical at NCCC. The musical was good and I'm glad we went, but we got home later than I'd like and I ended up waking up early. So I was TIRED Saturday.

Saturday, we were up bright and early. We wanted to leave Buffalo at 8, but ended up leaving a little after 9. I can't say we made fantastic time, but then with three people and three cats, this isn't a huge surprise.
Meanwhile, Freddie is getting lost because it turns out the route I sent him on.. Trucks aren't allowed on certain parts of it.
Oh, I forgot to mention we had decided Friday to have someone meet Freddy at the apartment and professionally move the furniture into the apartment. So when we got there, all the furniture was moved in already. We just needed to move it around to suit us.
Got into Laurel, MD about 6:30, checked mom in and talked to Freddie who wasn't going to help us move furniture. So mom, Kristen and I go to the apartment and move the funiture around until both Kristen and mom were satisfied that it was set up well.
From there, we got my car (I had parked it at the Greenbelt station and rode a bus, Thursday, to BWI) and dropped mom off at the hotel, then Kristen and I set a lamp up and went to sleep in an actual bedroom with actual furniture.

Sunday, we all woke up early and got to the hotel by 10:00. The plan WAS to meet up with Freddie for brunch, then go to Target and possibly Walmart to pick up some stuff I needed. Then, from there, mom and Kristen go on their way and I follow Freddy to where the truck is supposed to be returned, then drop him off at BWI. Things do NOT happen that way.
Start with, before getting to the hotel, when I had been running numbers in my head before Kristen woke up and admitted I wasn't sure I could afford airplane tickets to Buffalo AND a kennel for the cats for two weekends from now and how would she feel if I couldn't make it, which... well.. we ended up pretty much deciding that neither one of us likes it, but we'll do whatever we have to do.
Get there, call Freddie who wants to meet for brunch at 12:00, so we go to Target first and get.. stuff.. broom and thumtacks and picture hooks and a cat fountain and just STUFF.
Finish that up and, meanwhile, Freddy is going to return the truck first and then we'll pick him up in my car, go eat and drop mom off and then Freddy off. Uh... Ok.
Freddy gets directions for the drop off place... somewhere on Annapolis Road. What he thinks (and we think) he means is 450 in Cheverly (which is very near my apartment). So we drive to find him and find him we do except he's lost and not finding the street he wants. He calls his wife Ellen who is reading him directions from mapquest and getting more and more upset because he's lost, short on time and needs to be at the airport at a certain time.
And he takes it out on everyone.. on the girl from the office (who didn't know which Annapolis Road, apparently. We end up finding another one off the 95 near Baltimore, which probably WAS the right place) and then me for not knowing which roads were not OK to take trucks on.
Finally he decides he'll find where to drop the truck off (after we found the other Annapolis Road) and catch a taxi to the airport and that mom, Kristen and I can do brunch without him and then they can get on their way before they possibly get stranded in the mdidle of some unexpected and unwanted winter weather.
We split ways, Kristen, mom and I go towards Laurel and try to go to IHOP but it's too crowded, so end up going to ... Something Ts Family Restaurant. Not terrible food. Then to the hotel where I say goodbye to mom and Kristen (and managed to leave the cat fountain in mom's car. Well, crap :p ) and then head home to the apartment to unpack and wait for my bed.
Well, the more I unpack, the better I feel. I even screwed up the courage to talk to my upstairs neighbor (who says we're spare. Which is good.) This isn't just an apartment, but, more and more, my home.
So right now I'm puttering around the apartment, putting things away and half-watching "Fellowship of the Ring" and waiting for Kristen and mom to update me with where they are and when they get home.
So... I'll finish this, get some food and go back to unpacking.

Love to my dork and the rest of you.
And I'll be sure to post later.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

There's a scene in St. Elmo's Fire, in which one of the characters is finally out on her own, and she describes how once she'd gotten everything settled in her own place, she made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And since it was her own peanut butter, her own jelly, her own bread, in her own place; it was the best sandwich she'd ever had.

Bewteen myself and one of my friends, peanut butter and jelly sandwich (or PeanutButterJellyTime) has become a codeword for successfully being an adult on their own terms. Congratulations, enjoy that first sandwich.

The vaguely amusing thing about this is that I work at a company called PBS&J. To get people to remember the initials, I say Peanut Butter Sandwhich with Jelly :)

I love that movie! And the scene is pretty much perfect.
