So.. I did see Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy last night.
I was... disappointed.

It was a good science fiction comedy. There were alot of amusing points and I enjoyed.
But there was a whole lot of the movie that, as far as I remember, is never in any of the books I've read.
And the whole love story aspect... no! NO NO NO NO NO! What about Fenchurch, eh?

Though some Fenchurch and Trillian pr0n would be totally hawt.
Anyways...

The personalities were, by and large, pretty spot on. Except for Trillian and Arthur and they were trying to force the whole love thing there.

I really did enjoy it. It's a decent movie. Just.. if you haven't read the book recently... wait until after the movie.
And, of course, the book is better :)

Quite aside from the fact that most people (including you until you saw it) are trying to *AVOID* any kind of spoiler... *grumble*

Fenchurch isn't there until book four in the dead-tree format, and there was certainly a unidirectional interest in the Arthur-Trillian thing, just not reciprocated.

I'm prepared to accept that angle, though - Hollywood is never happy with a movie unless there's a love-interest theme, so we sort of have to deal with it.

All that said I find it very true in spirit. Douglas Adams was always reqwriting it. The book is different from the original radio play, the tv series different from the book, I quite expected the movie to be quite different from all three.

Re: not a central theme - I definitely agree there. Until I've seen the movie myself, I'm going to reserve judgement on an Arthur/Trillian love angle, but I'm prepared to accept one if it doesn't damage the more general plot too much.

I have to agree on the who lovey dovey - lets make this bearable for the //non geeky chicks that ulimately be dragged along to it// by adding in a love angle. I enjoyed it while I watched it (probably becuase I havent read the books for 10 years or so now) but as time wore one it less than impressed me. So things where done really well and the things that i think brought it down for me could have done well too.

I think they did well to adapt it for a movie. I enjoyed stephan fry narratoring.
