hkellick: The Official Sims 3 Icon/Plumbob - Stolen from their site (Sims 3)

On June 2, Sims 3 will be out in our local stories. I am, as of you've no guessed, a bit excited about this. :)

I've been playing The Sims since 'Livin' Large' came out back in 2000. I love the storytelling aspect of the game. I love setting my sims up and seeing how they react, and how they want to react on their own.

The Sims 2 really allowed the characters a chance to begin to have a life of their own. With randomly chosen lifetime aspirations and partially random wants and fears and some more free will, the Sims started to have a life of their own.

The Sims 3 looks like it wants to fulfill that promise. The game will now be allowing most of the Sims to play their own lives out, without your intervention. This will be done via some pretty complicated AI. Characters now have up to five character traits (out of a bank of over 60 of them) and they'll act out behaviors related to that trait.

Each iteration has sought to be significantly better than the others. For The Sims 2, they added three dimensional Sims, Wants and Fears and multi-generational. The Sims 3 will include.. most of that (tossing aside Wants and Fears, but the rest stays), for a game that tells a story better. Less time micromanaging your Sims needs (OK, I need to get him out to work in an hour. So.. let's make him pee first, then shower, then get some leftovers from the fridge.)

So, yes.. I'm really excited about Sims 3. I could probably talk about it the whole month. But I'll try not to. :)

Today's amusing Sims 3 Fact: Snob Sims can imply that your mother is a Llama.

Aaaiiieeee, I'm so excited! I've been binging on Sims 2 in anticipation (yeah, I've got all the expansions and most of the stuff packs, urgh) and hoping so hard that Sims 3 will run decently on my ageing system. My kingdom for a new gaming machine! I want to squeeze all the goodness out of this game, I have a feeling the AI is going to be particularly demanding :s

Spore does run quite nicely on my PC, I just worry that I won't be getting the 'full' experience. I guess I should suck it up and get saving for some better tech anyway though, since I will need to upgrade eventually... all the custom content and expansions will up the required spec I'm sure! ;)

whoa! Those are lower than I thought!

Lucky for me I pass the minimum pretty well...
WinXP, Athlon 3200+, 2GB RAM, and a 7600GT 256MB video card. Phew!

Thanks for that, my mind is a little easier now :)

I CAN HAZ SIMS 3 NAO?!

Seriously I can't wait. Not sure if I will like that my families will run themselves when playing another family but I'm willing to give it a go. I may end up loving it.

I never even touched Sims 2. I don't think I've done any Simming since... 2001?

But I like casual open-ended games, so if this isn't too expensive (or I can convince someone they really really like me), I may think about getting it. I've got a dual boot XP on my iMac, so the lack of OS X support isn't the deal breaker it would have been a year ago.

Oh, OK. I was just going off what you'd posted above. Mac is good.

Like I said, I'm willing to give it a try. I think the micromanaging was what burned me out on the original game and I was just too busy to try v.2.

Fifty bucks is a lot for me to spend on a game, though. We'll see.
