I've had a long, extremely stressful morning. Between one boss and another, I've gotten no chance to do any actual WORK today despite two rapidly approaching deadlines on Friday, and this afternoon looks too busy to work too.

Getting out of ANOTHER meeting, there was a call from K. K got the call from the.. person at our bank we asked regarding getting a mortgage.

In short, despite consolidating all of my student loans some three or so years back, apparently one loan was missed, and it defaulted, and even if I get it fixed up and brought back into good standing, our window for buying a house is.. quickly fleeting.

So... now we need to consider other non-house issues.

Long run, this isn't a big deal, it's a pothole in the road of life. Short run, we STILL need to move because we STILL don't have enough room for a baby, so now we look at rentals or a three bedroom apartment.

Due to the morning, I'm just feeling.. unable to feel. I'm sure I'll be bitterly disappointed once I get a chance to THINK, but now... I just feel a dull ache.

*sigh*

EDIT: FINALLY got through to Sallie Mae (the holders of my Educational Loans). There's a mistake. No loans are in default.

What's going on? I has no idea.

I'm just glad that it isn't as bad as I feared.

Oh, @#$@# to THAT. I would hope that there's a lender out there that isn't so tied to a piece of paper. "Oh, we see your credit is pretty damn good aside from this one particular loan. wtf?" "What loan? OH SHIT, OOPS." "Oh, no worries. Shit happens."

I'm really sorry to hear that. :(

Eh, I can understand why we were turned down. They've got set credit scores limits for a hard cutoff, and this loan in particular put him below that cutoff. Mine is fine, but alone it wouldn't qualify us for enough to even consider looking for a house around here. If we were still in upstate NY, we could probably get by just fine leaving H off the application.

It's just crushing to find out -- less than two months after checking our credit reports -- that there's something out there we weren't aware of. If we'd known about it, we would have taken care of it before even considering applying for a mortgage. Unfortunately, it's not just a single payment; we have no idea how far behind the account is, and H can't get through to them to find out.

At least you know about it now and can take steps. If the bank hadn't uncovered it, who knows how far into arrears it would have gone?

I know it sucks you can't get a house this year, but babies don't take up that much space at first. We stayed in our one-bedroom apartment for six months after Will was born. If I remember the layout of your apartment correctly, it's approximately the same size as the larger apartment we moved into after the first six months. We didn't panic and buy a house until after I learned I was pregnant with Connor.

Good news: H got through to Sallie Mae, and it appears the bank had out-of-date information. H got into his SM account, and we're hoping we can find something concrete to fax/e-mail the mortgage guy to prove it.
