Happy New Years
Jan. 1st, 2003 10:49 amHappy New Years, everybody.
New Years eve was really good. Better than I'd expected.
By and large, I get along well with the majority of Dave's friends, but there are some who really annoy the hell out of me (such as Jeremy and Hugh, who spent most of last year's New Years Eve making out publicly which annoys me even if it's a boy and a girl. (A little public affection doesn't bother me. A LOT of it does, though. *shrug*)
I think that I spent less than half an hour combined socializing with either. Not purposefully (though, if need be, it might have been), but simply because so many other amusing people amused me.
The party started at 8. Todd and I arrived with the Brie, We pigged out on food and awaited Carl to arrive so that Carl could go 'bonkers' over the Brie cheese. A note about that. About.... five years ago or so, I got a chance to invite Todd to our New Years Eve celebration, which was at Carl's house. Since Todd enjoys Brie so much, he thought we might like to try it and brought it over. Carl, who is usually unflappable (and, actually, the one who manages to get everyone else to shut up and just blink at him), spent the entire night obsessing over the fact that, and I quote "He brought Brie!" which amused Dave to no end.
So the idea was originally for ME to bring a Brie cheese this year, but then Todd was invited along (which I had something to do with) and so Dave said he could go "if he brought Brie" which Todd assented to.
Well, apparently, Carl found out long before last night that Todd was coming and bringing Brie because he was not shocked. If anything, I'd guess he was more annoyed at everyone (at least Dave and Todd. Once I realized he seemed annoyed, I stopped) for making fun of him because of the Brie. It's sometimes hard to tell what Carl is thinking. He's really good at putting on a skin-deep mask. But he sat in the living room pouting when the Brie came out and never seemed to laugh at the Brie jokes, so...
What else?
Well, I got involved in a 3 hours game of Risk (Vive Le Revolucion!) with Eric, Carl and Dave's brother and was crushed by the forces of communism (or at least the forces of Eric), which is maybe OK as I helped set up Dave's brother's crushing (South America attacked North America and NEARLY got the entire nation. NEARLY!)
And we simultaneously watched Back to the Future (still a great movie.), bits and pieces of the varios Star Wars and a part of Thumb Wars (which was oddly turned off because of the voices of protest. If you've seen that movie, you'd probably protest too!)
It was good. I enjoyed myself.
I'll further enjoy myself if we do Lasertron Thursday while Carl is still in town.
Josh, on the other hand, did not, apparently, have a great New Years Eve.
Josh was asked by Victoria (a girl he seems to like) to come to some New Years party with her, which he readily agreed to.
So Josh, in true Josh fashions, runs upstairs an hour before he leaves, shaves.. twice!, puts on cologne, yells at mom because she didn't get to his whites so he has no clean socks (which he did, but..), then runs out and gets some flowers at Tops (A Grocery Store) and goes to meet her.
Apparently, she drunk, he didn't (no one in our family with the possible exception of Marc is a heavy drinker. Personally, I see this as a good thing.) and she started crying and crying and crying and crying about her love life. I'm guessing Josh heard more than he liked because when I came home and suggested it sounded like she liked him (she asked HIM to join her to this party), he replied no, she had a crush on someone else.
Which may or may not be true as Josh is painfully shy with girls too. I've only seen Josh ask a girl out once.
Anyways, I gotta run and take a shower. Mom and I are off to brunch today with the extended family (Uncle Jeff, Aunt Janice and POSSIBLY all three cousins: Jaime, Jonathon and Joshua) are staying at grandma's house and visiting friends in Buffalo. Should be a nice brunch.
I hope 2003 is a good year for everyone.
Especially me.
Oh, and before I leave,
My New Years Resolution:
According to my scale, I'm at 260. Try to get down to 200 (or as close as possible!) by 2004.
Now I'm off.
