You know that DVD you just "rented' from Disney?
It's going to self-destruct in two days.
Better copy it quickly before it's useless, eh?
God, this is disturbing.
Like we don't generate enough trash. Let's see how many black DVDs we can put in ye old local landfill.

Add to that how much money blockbuster does tend to make, eventually, off pre-viewed videos.
I know our blockbusters always have a WHOLE stack of the newest and hottest films.
Then when they aren't the newest and hottest anymore, sells off like half of them to make room for the newest and hottest.
That source of revenue will also be gone.

I'm sure Blockbuster and Hollywood Video and the other video rental places will be pushed into trying this. Will they stick with it?
I doubt it.
For one, this doesn't do all that much to deal with piracy. Like I mentioned, it just means I have to copy it sooner.

I don't think they're aiming for blockbuster/hollywood video to sell these. i think this would be in direct competition with blockbuster/hollywood video. the article says: Buena Vista hopes the technology will let it crack a wider rental market, since it can sell the DVDs in stores or almost anywhere without setting up a system to get the discs back
