Dork-A-Thon - Day 1
Jul. 19th, 2003 05:21 amIt's 5:00 and of COURSE I'm awake.
So let me take a moment to go over the events of the recent day.
My day, of course, started relatively early. I think I finally crawled out of bed at about 8:00, got up , showered and changed and waited for
kholnuu to call.
About 10:30, I get a call from
dawnstar and
kolys that they were very much awake and willing to come over. "OK", says I and gives directions which were correct except that I called Sylvan Parkway "Walton Way" (they're both entrances to my communittee), they missed the misnamed exit and got list.
Meanwhile, due to some stupid lady at customs,
kholnuu finally calls from the South Campus to ask to be picked up.
Wait on Dawn and Oli, wait a little more. They call about 11:00 to say "We're lost. Go get Derek without us." and so that is what I do. We're back quickly.
Get Derek, go back home, get Dawn and Oli and go on a few last minute stops I needed to make (Bank and Tops). We end up eating at the mall food court (cause Derek and I, at least, are hungry.) and then end up shopping for gifts for
janinedog.
The originally plan was to give her a gift certificate to Amazon, but I saw this adorable little bear with a jesters hat and bought it. :) Dawn and Derek also found nice little birthday gifts.
While in the mall,
ecwoodburn call to let us know that she's about ready to join us and that she's been in contact with
hobbtrbbtbcnbt and she'll be in Buffalo semi-shortly.
We head home, put stuff in freezer (Yay :) ) and just sit down for a second to relax when Kristen joins. We cuddle for a few minutes, then Kristen heads to the basement to begin networking of computers while Derek, Dawn, Oli and myself play Trivial Pursuit.
Beth soon shows off and we go off to.. ANOTHER MALL!
We find them, talk to a few minutes when someone mentions arcades and I mention the DDR clone in the arcade below the food court (I'm talking Walden Gallerie here. :) ) and then someone else mentions that there's an actual DDR machine in the arcade on the food court level.
Exit LITE to check this out. Tis true,
trillain of my heart. A Dance Dance Revolution Extreme game is now on the food court level of the Galleria Mall. 3 tokens to play :)
Two games later (and one really bad picture Beth took of my ass whilst I attempt to dance), I have decided that I rather like the arcade version. More nifty songness to it than I've seen in one game before. Twas good and I enjoyed.
We hung around that arcade for a while when someone else suggested we try the other arcade on the first level. So down we go to play ski ball and pinball and whatever else until we all run out of single dollar bills :)
Then we all headed back to my place, including Matt, Beth and the kidlets.
It started out OK, but the kidlets were obviously enjoying the cats, playing with them, teasing etc... but after a while you can tell the cats are getting bored and annoyed (Yes, maybe it's a sort of bias given that I have cats but not kids, but between a cat and a kid, I choose a cat any day.) and I ended up having to ask the kidlets to leave the poor cats alone.
Eventually the Forces of Pie arrived (that is,
kareila,
alierak,
xb95,
coderlemming and
janinedog and we headed to a late dinner at IHOP.
After the dinner, we checked in, ran back to my house for some stuff forgotten and went midnight bowling.
I've had alot of complaints about midnight bowling in the past.. sometimes valid, sometimes not.. but two things spring readily to mind. 1) Midnight bowling while it's hot and humid out.. was not the best idea. I was left sweating, dehydrated and am STILL thirsty. My bad.. I should have considered it. Luckily, I think Lasertron is air conditioned. 2) They were defiantely recycling videos. I saw one rap and one christine aguilera video twice. I know I did. Once is bad enough, thank you!
In the end, most of us enjoyed the midnight bowling I think, but we were hot and tired and a little miserable, so we disbanded early.
So the caravan of cars headed back to the hotel. I ditched them at the hotel and home we went to sleep
Until the orange cat decided he was starving to death and how DARE I try to sleep while he starves!
Anyways, that's Day 1. :)
