The Interview
Oct. 25th, 2003 09:51 amI know some of you are dying to know how the interview went. So, while I have a few minutes whilst the household prepares for the long road trip ahead, I shall endeavor to tell you how it went.
In short, it went fairly well.
With more detail, I arrived at the actual building about 10 minutes early (Thanks again,
kareila!), waited for Mr. Pat Connelly to come down. We talked for about half an hour. He told me who he was, what the job was, what sort of things the company was working on etc. I asked about training (Apparently a REALLY Good Question (tm) with some really good answers), travel, how likely it was for people to go from Group to Group (if I get hired, it'll be either for the (mainly) Water Treatment or POSSIBLY the (mainly) Wastewater Treatment Group. Which is OK. I know it's not what I'd hoped for at first (I still WOULD like a job doing modeling one day), but it's experience and I like the company.
So Mr. Connolly and I talked for about half an hour and I feel like that really went pretty well.
After, he wanted to introduce me to two of his Project Managers (I can't think of their names off the top of my head and I got no cards. I wonder if I should have asked for them...)
The first guy was a detail-oriented work-oriented definately engineer sort of fellow. We talked about my thesis, my experience, what sort of work I'd done. And I think that went pretty well. It was easy to have good answers about things I knew thoroughly like my thesis and groundwater programs I'd used before in classes (I should tell Dr. Jankovic that I attempted to open someone's eyes to the Analytic Element Method. He'd be pleased :) )
The second manager, a female, team and person oriented. We had a much shorter discussion. She asked me about experience I'd had, about where in the team *I* thought I would fit (I even mentioned the DiSC test I took a couple years ago.)
Then, at the end of the interview, I asked, you know.. how many people were being offered the job and at what time frame were you looking to hire. I am 1 out of 6 (MAYBE 7) people up for 1 (MAYBE 2, Water Group for sure, POSSIBLY Wastewater Group.) and they'll try to make their decision soon.
So, I'll hope and pray and call them tommorow. :)
We should be off Semi-soonish to Rochester to pick up my beloved
ecwoodburn and then off to Ithaca to check into our hotel and meet up with other Rochester and Ithaca type folks for some pre-wedding entertainment of an otherwise undetermined sort.
So, I'll finish this and log off and PROBABLY will post next from
ecwoodburn's apartment sometime.. or maybe Buffalo.
In short, it went fairly well.
