Oli,

There's a comedy troupe called the Capitol Steps that are playing Nazareth College on December 31st.
Trust me.. buy two tickets (one for Dawn and one for yourself) and go see them. They are SO worth it. These guys are funny as heck :)

OK, [livejournal.com profile] dustkitten got me onto this.

Covers are sort of omnipresent. We're so used to hearing covers all over the radio. In fact they're so omnipresent that many of us don't know what the covers are.

many of y'all know that Bananarama weren't the first to do "Venus" or that TMBG did not originally do "Istanbul (Not Constaninople)"
Some of you know tha Sheryl Crow did not originally sing "The First Cut Is The Deepest"

But here's some covers you may or may not known.

Chubby Checker stole "The Twist" from Hank Ballard & the Midnighters
The Carpenters stole "Close To You" from Dionne Warwick
Sinead O'Conner did not originally sing "Nothing Compares 2 U" - The Family did.
Smile actually sang "Mickey" before anyone had heard of Toni Basil
Janis Joplis borrowed "Me and Bobby McGee" from Roger Miller
And Barry Manilow is not the man who sang "I Wrote The Songs" first - That Was Captain & Tenille
And The Kingsmen's big hat "Louie Louie' - that was Richard Berry
Edwin Starr's "War" - Thjat was The Temptations first.
Laura Branigan borrowed "Gloria" from Umberto Tozzi.

So.. it just goes to show you. Chances are that just because you've never heard it before doesn't mean it's not a cover.
