A pretty much good week.
Apr. 28th, 2004 11:07 amYe Gods! Has it been over a week since I posted last?
Bad LITE! No Biscuit!
So... as of now (11:45) Kristen is heading back to Rochester (after getting gas). There she has a hectic week of packing ahead of her. I am ... really very sad to see her go. The apartment will be quiet and too lonely without her. I'll deal with this, of course, but... it won't be the same until she's back.
So, let's see.. the highlights of the past week.
Tuesday, of course, Kristen got here. Pulled into work just before 6:00, I believe, and we went, got my car back from Ford (I'd taken it in to get A) Inspected and B) To get the brake light to work again) - I couldn't get it inspected because Ford says all 4 tires needed replacing. Wunderbar. I didn't want Ford to do it yet, so we just drove off with the tires I have and I'll look into getting them replaced later (want to call the car dealership I got the car from first and ask WHY the wheels need replacing first), got a couple of stops done (Got Kristen a key to my apartment and she needed to stop to replace some makeup she'd lost the weekend before) and that was really it.
The day after, Kristen had an interview with NOAA and it was out 10 month anniversary. Not alot else to say about that. If you want more information about the interview, go back and read
ecwoodburn's journal. Wednesday we also went off to Target and Giant and got a slew of things, both for the apartment (like I actually have a rug in the bathroom now and a medium-sized Foreman Grill which has seen quite a bit of use recently) and, well, food. Food good.
On Thursday, Kristen tried to get together for lunch with a friend and failed, and ended up spiralling into a depression of "It's not my apartment! I don't want to use anything here and I'm bored!" Suggested the next day that she'd be in DC so should play tourist. I came home that night and the two of us watched League of Extraordinary Gentlemen together (which we both liked and agreed about the movie's weak points (like.. dialog))
On Friday, Kristen had an interview with the Treasury Department. As you know, she did well enough that she called her that afternoon and offered her the job (which we only found out about the day after). Then, as suggested, she did play tourist around DC, unfortunately tiring herself out a great deal so that legs HURT by end of day. Got home and the two of us went to go see Ella Enchanted, which was fun and cheesy, even if the theatre we saw it in sucked (We waited for 14 minutes after the movie SHOULD have started..for it to start. Nar. :p)
Saturday, the plan was always to go to Baltimore and do the Inner Harbor. That's exactly what we did. Woke up late, took our time and got ready and were probably in Baltimore by just after noon. First stop, the Maryland Science Center, which was under construction. Unfortunately, the entire first floor was under construction, so all they had to look into was the second floor: the space science floor. It WAS really cool, but not enough to keep our attention for too long. After that, we got a hold of
xeren who we were supposed to have dinner with that night, but that didn't work out, in part because Kristen wanted to see the Inner Harbor after sundown and I wanted to be there with her. So, instead, we did window shopping around the small mini-malls there and saw a couple things we might come back to buy (for both ourselves and for others.) After that, it was still pretty early, so we decided to go do an early dinner at a barbecue place and then hit the Baltimore National Aquarium. The Aquarium was HUGE and between seeing a half an hour dolphin show and the aquarium closing about two and a half hours after we first got in, we got a chance to see about half of it. So we need to come back.
Final stop was to a HUGE Barnes and Nobles on the edge of the Inner Harbor. Unfortunately, by the time of the night, between all the walking she'd done the day before and all the walking she'd done today, Kristen was drop-dead tired, so we didn't stay long there and vowed, instead, to come back in the near future to A) See the Science Museum when it's finished in a couple of months, B) Go back and finish the aquarium and, of course, C) Go back into Barnes and Nobles.. with a LIST of stuff we want ;)
Then we went home, hung out and ended up going to bed fairly early.
Sunday was always planned to be down-time day. The plans were mostly to clean the apartment and to have lunch with Kristen's Uncle Mark.
Got up late, had started to clean (had gotten MOST of the living room and kitchen cleaned) when Kristen's Uncle Mark had called and asked if we wanted to do a late brunch instead. We agreed and we ended up meeting at a place very near to where I live for an all-you-can eat brunch. It was delicious and we enjoyed it.
Then we went back to Target to get a couple of things we'd missed and got a couple of food items from Giant and went home.. and promptly ended up falling asleep for a three hour nap.
Woke up, finished cleaning, and started talking about all of the various aspects of her getting a job up here: apartment hunting, moving in, what this means for us as a couple etc.
And that was Sunday.
Monday, I did NOT sleep well at all and spent most of the day in a fuzzy purple haze (not a good thing, especially at work). I was sent to work with some security paperwork which NEEDED to be sent out ASAP to the Treasury Department. I sent it, except that I can only assume I never sent it to the right number (more about this why). Meanwhile, Kristen had a phone interview with, I think, the Department of Health which went well enough that they wanted a REAL interview with her on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Kristen's cell rang and rang and rang all day until just before I got home. When I got home, we ran out to Kinko's and because the mapblast website was WRONG about where it was, spent about half an hour lost while I was cranky and Kristen was stubborn, ended up going on Baltimore Avenue to find something and, lo and behold, we actually found her Kinko's... just nowhere even NEAR where the map said it was supposed to be. Tried to send the paperwork via FAX and... it never got there. Why? Because the silly people gave Kristen the number to the main office and NOT the FAX number.
Got home and I introduced Kristen to the world of SimCity 4. I think she's hooked. After only playing for a couple of hours :) Yay for something else I can share with my love :)
Tuesday, we both slept better, which is a yay because Kristen had two interviews. One with the Department of Health and one with... the Congressional Times? Some sort of periodical. She thinks she nailed the second one, which is good. She'll hear about it today, probably. It will be... INTERESTING if she does end up getting it.
Also, we'd bought a Turkey Breast the wednesday before because it was cheap and we figured we could make it. We'd decided that Tuesday was going to be the day Kristen cooked a little something special and so I get home and she's just starting the Turkey Breast. Had to run out to the nearest Giant to get a couple of things, but nothing terrible. Got home, put the Turkey in the oven and go BACK to Kinko's with the CORRECT FAX number... and get lost again. This one is completely our fault. Luckily, that day I had given Kristen my Prince George's County map (gotta replace this soon for me) and so we had it in the car and mananaged to get ourself unlost... only to get lost again on the way home. The FAX got through OK, though. Yay :)
Got home a little late, but the turkey was still good. It was VERY Good :)
Then we packed Kristen up and went to bed.
Today.. was hard. Still is, to some extent.
I woke up at 6:30 and Kristen tells me she didn't sleep well again and that she still felt exhausted. Ended up getting up, making some eggs for breakfast (gotta use 'em up. I didn't realize eggs went bad.) and just being generally clingy.
It's NEVER easy to say goodbye to the dork you love :(
Got into the car, drove off and then thought to myself... oh god! I don't think I saw Kristen's car!
Call her up (on my phone) and tell her this and she's like "Oh Shit. We never DID put the car back (There's a sign that says any cars that "don't belong there" will be towed away.) She runs and checks to see if the car is there.. and I wait for her to call.. and wait for her to call.. and wait for her to call.. call back five minutes later and her phone refuses to turn on. LOVELY. But the car IS in the parking lot still and wasn't towed. Woot, that.
Went to work and Kristen called an hour ago (God, I've been typing that long!) to tell me she was finally leaving. And that she had a very difficult time saying goodbye to the cats who, apparently, were more pathetic and sad than I was.
And so now she heads back to Rochester.
Part of me is still really sad.
Part of me looks forward to some alone time, which we never really gave ourselves (and may need to force upon ourselves after she comes back), but I know that this weekend will be when it's really tough. When I have more than a few hours to kill and very vivid memories of when the apartment wasn't as quiet and lonely as it will be then.
I should get back to work, though.
Love to my dork, wherever she is right now.
Can't wait until you're back in my arms again.
Miss you :(
