Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman. I’d like to announce my candidacy as Supreme Overlord of the United States of America. I’ve thought about this long and hard and while I have no political record to speak of, I believe I know what the presidency should be.
So please give me a second to explain my political position and why you should vote for me.
I’d like to call my campaign “Making America Great Again”, because that is what I plan to do. I have a comprehensive plan to make America competitive again, to make America a great nation again.
Let’s start at the beginning. When a child grows up in this country, he should have the right tools to begin with, in order to start a life where he can live as he so chooses and do as he so wants. The first and the most important tool is education.
We, as a country, need to focus more on education. How many Americans don’t know where India is? Or Russia? Or even the Pacific Ocean? Too many! That needs to end, right now! If elected, I will create a board of trustees whose sole job is to go to each school district across the U.S. and determine what needs to be done to bring each kid up to scratch. We need our children to understand basic concepts… how to read and spell, how to do basic arithmetic. We need our children to understand basic geography, basic literature and have the mental tools at his disposal to think through any problem.
A lot of you out there know the situation with schools. Cities can’t afford to keep their schools at the same tip-top shape as their suburban cousins. Children are left behind to get a substandard education.
Now, as some of you know, one of my predecessors had the idea of “No Child Left Behind”. His idea was to give the individual child money so that that one child can get a better education in a better school. But what about the rest of the children stuck in the substandard school? No, the answer is clear. If the city can not pay for a good education for their citizens, then it is the RESPONSIBILITY of the federal government to do so. If elected, I will fund every substandard school district so that every child in America can get the education they deserve!
When a child graduates high school, then he or she has the choice. To continue on with university or college or to quit and find a good-paying job in another field. For those of you who want to continue on to become our newest professionals, it is high time we make it more accessible for you to go to a good college. To that end, I would like to announce two new initiative… the first will be a renewed thrust towards funding federal and state college aid in terms of more money for grants and loans. The second will be a series of tax cuts for both students and parents who are helping to pay their childrens way through school.
But going to school is meaningless if you can’t come out of school and find yourself a job. And so we move forward. Many of you have heard talk of closing tax loops for companies using overseas workers, of efforts to bring back manufacturing. And I will work towards making these a reality, but I will suggest something more. Look around… look outside your window, America. Look at the bridge built during the New Deal, the power lines, the railroads. Our infrastructure is crumbling, America. Just a year ago, a small mistake caused most of the Northeast to lose their powers for hours and, sometimes, days. It’s time to upgrade, America. It’s time for America 2.0. And we need to work together to make it happen. So I am going to take a queue for Franklin Delano Roosevelt and suggest that it’s high time we get fixing. It is time to invest in ourselves, America. And so, if elected, I will hire construction contractors from throughout the United States to upgrade old bridges, recycle unused railroad tracks, and perhaps even build a new park or two. But it doesn’t just stop at there, America. Because to do so, we need materials; steel and concrete, wood and glass. Thar be jobs here, America and it is time to find them.
And that’s all well and good, but in addition to that, for those of you Americans who want to work I will increase the minimum wage. America, we need to make living wage. It makes common sense. Give a man enough to live on and even a little bit more and he’ll spend it, happily. We are a spending culture, America. We love our gadgets and gizmos. We love the internet and the television. We love the Foreman grill and that cute little pizza maker. Do you see, America? Give a man enough money to live on and he’ll spend it, thus putting the money back into our economy. He’ll spend it on American meat and vegetables, American goods and American services.
But to really make this worthwhile, America, we need to bring everything back to reasonable, America. You all see it every day, rocketing gas prices, sky high drug prices. It’s ridiculous!. But I have a solutions for that too, America. The first is regulation. In the past, we deregulated industries. Experts told us it would be better for the market if we deregulated telecommunication. Time-Warner says so, America and so should you. I don’t think that’s the answer. Do you? When was the last time you called and tried to talk to someone about your cable bill or your phone bill? Enough is enough, America. It’s time to take it back. It’s time to make prescriptions affordable. They can do it in Canada, America.. and so can we. It’s time to find alternatives to coal, gas and oil, America. You know this. There’s a Natural Gas shortage on, there’s a dwindling supply of oil. We have the technology, America. We’ve had it since World War II. Solar power, Wind power, Geothermic power. These are readily available power sources and we can work with them right now. If we cut the amount of oil we use in half, we’ll be saving a bundle each time we go and fill up our car or heat our house during the winter.
And finally, America, it’s time to take back the environment. We all want it and no one has acted to get it. We have done more, in the last ten years, to poison our soil, our air and water then to help it. Superfund is nearly out of money. We’ve increases the amount of chemical poisons allowed in our environment. Is that the world you want to live in, America? That you want your children to live in?
It’s time to take it back, America. Time to reward companies working towards Green Technologies and Green Development. Time to reward new innovations and new ideas that will make American great again.
Do you know what makes us great, America? Many things, but among them is the fact that we have some of the undisputed best minds in the world and a culture that allows them to bloom. We’ve always been at the edge of innovation, America. Since the industrial revolution, we have been at the forefront of the new and upcoming things. A sound education will help these minds to bloom, America, and to sprout the brilliant thoughts that helps make America great. A good job that pays well will secure them the chance to find the next innovations, instead of running out to Job two or three. A clean environment and good healthcare will help ensure that these minds remain with us for as long as possible.
It’s time to take America back, America. Away from those you’ve allowed to steal it from you: the almighty corporation, the scaremongers, the vocal minority.
Vote LITE in 2004.

You know, I haven't always seen directly eye to eye with you politically, but thats a damn good speech. I'd vote for that with the hope that it could lay groundwork for an America that actually supports peoples rights when it claims to, and although it doesn't touch the deepest festering wound, the military, it is nice sentiment. Wow
