Well folks...
It looks like we failed in a big, huge way.
Yeah yeah yeah, I know that Ohio is "Still contested", but 140,000 votes is a whole lot to catch up with. And unlike 4 years ago, Bush is winning the popular vote in a big big way. (So much for Farenheit 9/11, so much for a bad economy, a bad war, bad decisions.) I really hoped that when we stopped being apathetic, that when we, as a country, all got out and voted that we would vote for Kerry. But.. obviously not. I don't know how Bush can't NOT take that as his mandate to do what he's done for the last four years: maybe another pointless war, or more sucking of cash and jobs from those of us who need it, the poisoning of our environment, the loss of civil rights (I'm sorry ladies, but you can probably kiss your rights to an abortion goodbye. :p )
And let's not ignore that the republicans have gained in the house and the senate, ensuring that if President Bush *IS* reeelected, he can probably guarantee everything from the next Patriot Act to the next war in Iran.
I know that today, the sun will continue to shine, the earth will not suddenly be destroyed, and we will continue to live from day to day, but this feels like the earth is now going to end.
Because we failed :p
Heaven help us all.

Edit: If I needed proof that the world has not ended, I only needed to step outside. It's BEAUTIFUL out today, if a little chilly. it's sunny, with orange, brown and, occasionally, red leaves blowing around due to wind and it's just.. a lovely day out. I wish I weren't so exhausted and could enjoy it more.

My dad commented that it's very common for a president to change course in his second period. The first period is spent trying to get re-elected, the second period trying to get into the history books.

Well, one can always keep one's fingers crossed and hope that Bush won't try to get into the history books as the biggest moron of all time.

Supposedly, Bush recently said that all people deserved the right to get married or something. But that was probably a half-assed attempt at gaining more voters.

Anyway, I don't think anyone failed. Most of us went out and got informed in ways we never had before, and then voted. I think this was my first presidential election, I'm actually pretty sure it is. So I don't feel like a failure. I'm proud of me.

It's just that when there's a majority, there's a majority. The majority of people feel safer with Bush than without him. They think he's aggressive in a way they think Kerry can't be. So that's that.

People just want to be safe. And proud. Bush gives them that.

I know what Bush said (it was in the second debate), but I don't believe it.

I agree that tommorow was a smash success for democracy in action. We needed to get voter turnout higher and it was, but I guess I consider tommorow a failure for myself and my friends.

Keep in mind that I only know of one guy (I believe) who voted Republican this year. Most of my friends, family, coworkers are all democrats or, at the least, voted for Kerry this year. I don't think I necessarily grok the minds of the majority of voters who voted for Bush. Yes, we're in a war, but a war of his making. Doesn't that count against him?

And then there's the morals thing. Apparently alot of people voted Bush because of his morals. I'd hate to believe that the majority of this country actually has morals like Mr. Bush. That this country really is so ass backwards and small-minded to be anti-civil liberties, pro-war, anti-muslim, anti-gay, anti-environment, pro-big business (No matter the cost) etc. etc. etc.
The thought that we, as a nation, could be really that ass backwards is heartbreaking and demoralizing.
