Dear Media Centers of the World,

Exactly why am I supposed to care if Paula Abdul was in a relationship with Corey Clark?
Why the hell am I supposed to care why some soon-to-be-wed woman pretended to be kidnapped but ran away to Vegas instead?
Are these stories really worth the constant expose on otherwise decent televsion programs?
Is there so little newsworthy activities going on around the world that this is the best I can see?
This is pretty lame, guys. Really really lame.

Sincerely,
An unhappy viewer.

Well, the Paula Abdul scandal is important in terms of what happens to American Idol. Which is one of the most watched shows on television right now (maybe the most watched show). So although I agree the details of it are pretty dumb, the fallout of it will be important to millions of people.

Um... how is this important?
How is an American television show so awesomely important? It's a bloody television program.
Also, I highly doubt it's the most watched show. It has a following. Many shows do.

Nothing will happen to American Idol except that I doubt Paula Abdul will be a judge next time around.
So who cares?

So who cares?

As I said: the millions of people who watch it.

Most people like Paula and dislike Corey. They don't want to see her kicked off the show for this. This isn't the same thing as a normal TV drama; these are real people with real lives.

The problem here is that people are obsessed with watching celebrities fall. People want to ignore the stupidity and pettiness in their lives so get embroiled in stupid meaningless things such as which celebrity is in hot water now or which celebrity is fucking who.

I wish no ill will against Paula Abdul, but her plight is no concern of mine. It's trivial and unimportant and just because millions of viewers who have nothing better to do than live and die with the fate of some celebrity they've latched onto for whatever reasons think that this is important doesn't mean it necessarily is. it was never important when Clinton had sex with those bimbos either.

These people are.. people. They are human. They make mistakes. They use bad judgement. Who the hell gives us the right to judge them and why is it newsworthy so that americans across the nation can judge someone on their transgressions.

This is bullshit news. Bullshit. Give me something more important. What laws are being passed. What wars are being fought. What is going ON in the world?

I totally agree that their sex lives are none of our business. But still, the fallout of this will be important to a lot of people, whether you think it -should- be important to people or not. It doesn't just affect her, it affects the contestants of the show too (who, despite being really popular and well-known now, were not popular at all just a few months ago), particularly if they decide to kick her off before this season is over.

Except it was during a past season, and the guy may have been "coached," but lost anyway.

So in the end, Paula Abdul had sex with a loser. Why is this newsworthy?

He actually didn't lose; he was kicked off the show for not disclosing that he had a criminal record. And he did make it to the top 12, which means he beat out a lot of other people. These are people he may not have beaten if he hadn't been coached.

Watch the Daily Show. It's probably even less meaningful to cover the pointless coverage of the Paula Abdul thing, but at least it's funny and they know it ;)
