Yesterday, I won

The plan was, as I said yesterday, to head up to Brunswick, MD to be a part of the Brunswick/GCOM Games Day. [livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin was coming down to be a part of this and Kristen was at least partly interested (and knew I'd enjoy myself, since I tried being a part of Games Club of Maryland once upon a time, and loved it, but had the problem of feeling like no one at the meeting was near my age.)
So, we drove an hour northwards, through the country of Northern Maryland (1/2 to 2/3 of the journey was down small country roads. Kristen swore that this part of the trip reminded her of Livingston County, NY.
But.. we got there just after twelve, and looked around. Something was going on right near the door, a Looney Labs experiment... a guy named Ralph (possibly an employee of Looney Labs, or just a Demo Bunny) had all of the Looney Labs games, and prizes: play 4 Looney Labs, win a prize.. first 6 to play 8 win another and are put in the drawing to win a SUPER AWESOME PRIZE!
I swear I hadn't come into the day attending to play Looney Labs games, but as many of y'all know, I do love Looney Labs. I like Fluxx and Chrononauts (which, until yesterday, was all I'd ever played)
So... Kristen and I sit down and just play.. only stopping to go bathroom, get munchies or, at 7:00, order dinner.. we played all but one game: Are You A Werewolf?, EcoFluxx (yay!), Aquarius, UberChrononauts (!!!), Nanofictionary, Ice Towers, Zendo and Volcano. We also betatested a game that's not out yet: Just Desserts.
As y'all can count.. that's 9 games.. so both K and I won the prize for four looney labs.. a new Fluxx Card: Star, and we won the prize for eight games: a stuffed flower with the looney labs website on the stem. We also were in the drawing for the game prize.. which turns out to be the copy of EcoFluxx K and I opened earlier that day!
That said, we did not win. A girl named Refka (spelling may be incorrect) did, but as Ralph pointed out, she had it already, and had intended to see K and/or I got it instead. So... we left the place, 10 and a half hours after we left, both of us buzzing from having a good time with some decent people we enjoyed hanging with... and EcoFluxx!
Not only THAT, but we found out there's a more local game players group that plays board/card games in Sterling, VA (about 20-30 minutes away, with traffic) that plays on Monday.

Today, we're probably going to head to a Game Store and buy some games :) Probably the IceHouse Pyramids, the "Playing with Pyramids" book, probably Aquarius, and possibly Are You A Werewolf? (Assuming we can get all this at the closest store.)
And.. can I say, once again, thank god we moved to Fairfax.. I LOVE having great stores right near me :D The closest RECOMMENDED book store is in Sully Plaza, about 10 minutes away.
So... all in all a really great day and while this isn't how Kristen planned on celebrating her 28th, between Karaoke on Friday Night and the Games Day, she was all sorts of happy :)
Yay for ensuring that she had a great birthday, especially after she was depressed about how most of our other holidays didn't go the way we'd have liked.
And yay for just... totally winning yesterday :D

*dances*

Now if I didn't feel like I was getting sick :/

I did a search on Demo Rabbits in Maryland, and found one Ralph. Is this him?

The Looneys live in College Park. When [livejournal.com profile] coderlemming was interning at Goddard, he found a coffee shop where they like to hang out and play games. He has an autographed Andy Looney card - I don't remember if you ever saw it.

The plush flowers are a collectors item - they were discontinued in November. But I'm glad you got the EcoFluxx game too. :)

Maryland instead of VA? Yep, that's him.

No, I never did see the autographed card, but I remember (now) that sTiLe did hang out at that cafe. Wish I'd thought of it while I still lived there.

So, are you a demo rabbit as well? I've wondered where you got those promo cards from. Just be registering with looney? (I want promos too!)

I dunno if I'd wanna be a demo rabbit. I love to play, but I don't know if I'm great at teaching.

Aw, no more flowers? They're so CUTE, though. At least K and I have one each (we put in a flower vase on our display shelf.. cause!)

You can sign up to be what they call a Blab Rabbit - you don't have to run demos, you just tell people how great Looney Labs games are. :)

I'm not actually a registered rabbit. I'm just on their mailing list because I've bought their games through the website in the past.

I LOVE Fluxx. I always make a point to stop by the Looney Labs site at GenCon...Another great store that's near you is McKay's Used Books--there is one in Centreville and one in Manassas...and they are good used books as well. I was in there almost once a week.
