So, there are other things afoot besides the shame of being pulled aside and told that my interpersonal skills suck. Not that that isn't taking the most of my thought processes.
I think I've decided to try to make it a personal habit to be just generally nicer to people and try to not speak everything that comes to mind before thinking it through. Hopefully it works. I don't want it to be said that my interpersonal skills are so terrible. :P

In other news, I was talking to my thesis advisor. We both agreed that I was slightly behind in my Thesis, but not to worry, because I've got most of 3 1/2 months to get my project going and I'm pretty sure I can use it effectively. Especially when I get my own PC.
I talked to Dr. Atkinson and suggested how useful it would be for me to get a PC. The fact is, it would be. ArcView GIS runs best on a PC. You can get Fortran compilers for a PC. And besides that, there are the, for me, typical productivity tools: Winamp, mostly (don't knock it. I work better with music in the background. More music than I carry on my little battery run iRock), but a working Internet Explorer and such for when ArcView is doing it's thing or the model is running.
It'll probably take about a month to get here (I'm expecting that Dr. Atkinson doesn't order it immediately and it'll take two or three weeks to get here.)
Until then, I'll work in the one trailer and bring CDs along. Because it does have a CD player with a headphone port (and no speakers). So I grabbed two Cake CDs and an 80s CD for tommorow.
The other good thing is I have a plan of action of things my professor really wants. Basically, he's going alone to Winnipeg and he wants to discuss the project. And he wants me to be able to get something done.. how to explain..
LOTOX (the bioaccumulation and toxics model) has a set of 36 (I think. Not absosmurfly certain.) "cells", each with it's own specific borders. We're going to take the 8 or 9 cells on the top surface and add them into GIS. Then try to write a script to average the velocity vectors intersecting the planes created by these lines over the entire depth of the lake.
Not easy, but it's something to work towards.

What else?
Can't think of anything new.
So I guess I'll post instead.

I suspect that not saying everything that crosses your mind is a great first step. :)

Seriously. The art of holding one's tongue seems almost lost in modern society!

I almost never hold my tongue.

But then, how often do I truly say something offensive?

It happens, but that happens to someone that tries to hold their tongue all the time, too.

I prefer the concept of .... twisting the tongue. Choosing your words, not discarding them. I try to always say what's on my mind, but I've learned over time what approaches work better than others. I don't always get it right, but it seems to work 90% of the time.

Right now I'll just settle for thinking about everything I say before saying it, then making the decisions there and then to say it or change my wording or whatever.

Hopefully it gets easier with time. I'm just used to saying everything I think that I do it without thinking (duh)
