Work Stuff

OK... this is a PUBLIC work post, so i'm going to keep some details sketchy.
The stuff I want to talk about should be OK to talk about.
I kinda
feel.. a little bad, a little awkward.
It's no secret that my company teamed up with Baker, the company I
subcontract in to go after the new NFIP Risk Map Contract. Our team is one
of three teams that won. We won the LOMC (Letters of Map Change) and Study
Contract for 3 Regions.
What's not clear (and I couldn't be clear even if I DID know something,
which I don't), is how, now that we know we've won the 3 regions we've won,
how we're going to divide up the work between Baker, my company and the
couple of subcontractors who were also a part of the team. What we Do know
is because my company was a full partner in this, and not a subcontractor,
we should get a fair percentage of the work. Not 50% because of the
subcontractors, but something around that number.
Again, how they'll divy up the work is beyond me.
What *IS* clear, though... is that Baker is losing alot of jobs. The
previous contract, they PWNED, getting a large majority of the work. This
next contract.. represents significantly less work than they had.
Now, to my story. I have this friend who works for Baker. We'll call him
Sam. Sam and I have gone out to lunch a great deal in the past, usually with
other people. First our mutual friend who's left Baker and a friend of
theirs. Then, when both of them left, typically just my coworker MSB.
With time running out on the contract, I've been hoping to have one more
lunch with him. Doesn't really matter where, just that.. but.. he's been
'too busy' to eat. I invited him out to lunch just today and he was too
busy. So.. I go up to MSB and I ask "Is something the matter with Sam?"
"Well", says MSB, "he's just really worried about the contract."
The contract. It's like this cloud obscuring nearly everything at work. Will
we have work in a month, asks some of the employees, ask my Minions, ask the
subconsultants. What will I be doing in a month?
For my part... I have no concerns. I have no idea HOW the contract will divy
up, only that there'll be enough work for AT least my whole team in this
office. I suspect more than just us, since there's only five of us here.
Since we're full partners, and since our group is so small, WE'RE assured
work. Everyone else... well, I can understand the dark cloud hanging around
the office, and the other offices (such as where the minions work. We've
already lost one minion of three to, I think, the USACE.)
I just hope we find some sort of relief when we all find out the score. It
may take some time, though...
In a more public un-cut thought.. I have to wonder.. if I'm going to post
these things publicly, should I be calling them Minions or some other
nickname?
Meh. Overthinking. Minion is fine.
