I think one of the biggest mistakes we, as dieters, tend to make is to concentrate on the negatives, what we CAN'T have. This is ESPECIALLY true for those who go on restrictive diets that say you can't have this and you can't have that, though it's even true for those of us who aren't on restrictive diets who just know we shouldn't have this or that.

The more attention you put on something, positive or negative, the more associations you make in your mind to it. Seriously! If I spend my day thinking about chocolate. Why I can't have chocolate. Why I shouldn't have chocolate. What would happen to me if I had chocolate.. the more associations my minds make with chocolate. And YOU know what happens. Eventually.. you just have the chocolate. The need to have it overpowers the shouldn't and can't.

It's better to start really THINKING about all the things you CAN have. What delicious and tasty nutritious meals can YOU come up with? What interesting recipes are out there that totally fit into your diet? How can you improve this food to make it more delicious or healthier.

It's a big difference. There's, literally, a world of foods that most of us can enjoy, more foods than you probably even know about. You can sample different ethnic cuisines, try a variety of different sorts of foods and flavors or just keep coming back to your old favorites time and time again to fine-tune them into the most delicious yet nutritious food you can. It's ALL good.

So here's my challenge to you, the readers of this post. THINK about food for a little bit. How can you make food work FOR you? How can you concentrate on the positive, on the foods you CAN eat and WANt to eat? Then tell me about it.. or just write about it in your own blog, if you like.

Food can be fun! There's so many different flavors, so many different combinations! Have fun with your food, and make it work for you! :)
