Fwoosh? That's not a good sound!
Aug. 21st, 2003 11:27 amYesterday was an INTERESTING day.
I spent alot of yesterday talking to alot of people, or waiting around to talk to people.
Let's see, various hugs and worries are sent out to
dawnstar,
trillain,
kareila and
chrissmari.
Also, extra special hugs and no worries to
ecwoodburn, for just talking yesterday. Lots and lots of just talking.
Also, Happy Birthday to
dustkitten's daughter, Tash.
Things going on at the moment:
1) My mom is heading out at 11:00 to get our new car, a Saturn Ion. Unfortunately, because of the new car, the house has been in an uproar. Every few minutes SOMEONE else is calling.. car companies, insurance companies, company car companies, insurance company insurer companies. insurance company insurance car companies. Well, not quite THAT bad, but every time Josh starts closing his eyes, someone else calls and he's very annoyed about this. I can understand why as I was only there a couple hours yesterday and a couple the day before and I, too, found the barrage of phone calls damned annoying.
2) The lawnmower is back. It went into the shop Monday because it's been difficult to start or it stops suddenly. Apparently, I forgot to run the lawnmower out this last winter and stale gas helped make things difficult. It's better now. I finished mowing the lawn.
3) "Phone Booth" - Josh rented this movie last night and I had expressed interest in seeing it in the movie theatres. So we watch it. It was a very.. disturbing movie. To summarize for you, a vigilante traps a somewhat less than model American (he's thinking of cheating on his wife and getting ready to do so, but has not yet done so. He tells lies and wears expensive clothes to feel good. Actually he's a fairly normal American, I think.) in a Phone Booth and threatens to kill him unless he plays along with the vigilante's mind games. I don't think I really liked the movie at all.
4) The grill. OH, THE GRILL. This one is a fairly long story.
As some of you may recall during the Dork-a-Thon, the grill stopped working on the hot dogs. We had, apparently, run out of gas. No problem, right? So I run out the week after and get a new propane tank and some new propane. The next time we went to grill, there just wasn't much in the way of flame coming out so mom wanted us to clean out the grill, especially around the element in which the propane is coming out. She decided that since we're cleaning out the grill, she'll get some brand new briquettes and put them in.
This is where things get interesting.
So yesterday, we have the briquettes and I go and clean out the grill, put the new briquettes in and we light the grill. At the time when the grill was lit, I was inside washing the ash off my hand when I hear a fairly loud *FWOOSH* and my name is called to get my ass outside.
I go outside and a (comparatively) large fire is raging in the grill. I mean it was big enough that if we'd had no cover, we could have worried about the tree near the house setting on fire. So mom tells Josh to put the cover down and turn off the gas and we wait. That's when the arguing starts. Josh says to grab the extinguisher and just put the sucker out. I say wait and let it extinguish on it's own. There's no way that sucker could burn forever. We argue for about 10 minutes, check the flames again and they ARE lower, but still too high. So we argue some more and the inevitable decision is.. we don't know what we're talking about. Who does? The fire department might.
So I call the fire department and rather emberassedly mentioned the situation and the two options we were considering. The guy was very nice and suggesterd we move the grill into an open space so that nothing catches on fire and let it die on it's own. He suggests we COULD use the extinguisher, but we'd have to clean all the powder out after. So I go outside to tell my mom and we check the fire and it's died down alot and is a reasonable height.
I don't think the fire actually burned itself out until about 11:00 at night after hanging up on Kristen and heading up to bed. I looked in the grill (and again this morning) and there is nothing left but ash. As far as I can tell, mom bought the wrong sort of briquettes (to put it nicely), as these suckers burned themselves totally out.
So probably today when I get home, I have to clear the grill out AGAIN and put new (and hopefully the right sort this time) briquettes in.
At least things in my house aren't BORING. I might not have anything to post about if they were.
In other news, I can (I think) safely say that
ecwoodburn and I had the first really good day in a while. I have to admit that now that we've fought and discussed alot of things I guess I, personally, am feeling alot better. Maybe it's the knowledge that, despite the problems, we both are working to fix things and that we both want to continue this relationship.
I was talking to
dustkitten yesterday, between posting the post re: Kristen and I and talking to her, I realized that Kirsten was not the only one dealing with past relationship issues. This stage of our relationship (The stage where the stars start disappearing from your vision and you realize that the person you love isn't perfect) is the stage where basically all of the otherwise working relationships (Jen, Jenn, Christine and Bryony. Nnyxx doesn't count. She was a psycho) either ended suddenly or spiralled into madness and I realized that I was really expecting (and because of my expectations, possibly beginning to make it occur) the same thing to happen with
ecwoodburn which explains certain dramatics I pulled and an overwhelming feel of doom and gloom I felt since the arguing started Saturday Night and ended only after I realized that I was being all doom and gloom and that I was expecting things to suddenly spiral out of my control.
Um.. where was I again?
So, anyways, we talked about this and that.. Phone Booth, worries about our friends, our own situation, sex and.. whatever else we covered at the time. We talked for two hours on the phone. Long enough for her phone battery to run out, I guess. Eep :)
Anyways, it was a good day for Kristen and I.
Gonna roleplay today. Well, we're SUPPOSED to roleplay, but I'm thinking I'm feeling evil and am going to bring Curses! over. :D
I can't think of anything else I need or want to say. Toodles, folks.
