Now that I've been at work for half of the day, I'm feeling a bit better, in general. At least alot less freaked out. Maybe partly because I spent some of the last two hours thumbing through LJ and friending neat-seeming people in Hyattsville, Laurel and I started to in College Park. (Hi all of you!) Won't necessarily lead to friendship, but it's a step in the right direction. Joined a community named [livejournal.com profile] mdgaming too and asked if there were any open games I could join. Nothing yet.

Was talking with a couple of people during lunch who suggested that living in PG county was not the best choice and I might have done better in, say, Howard County.. better neighborhood, reasonable prices.
So... the negative side is obvious. Stuck with this apartment for 12 months unless things get really bad and I seriously need to contemplate taking a chance on cutting the lease.
On the plus side:
1) The office people seem amiable
2) the maintenance guy(s) supposedly were at my apartment nice and early to deal with the things I called the office about Saturday (like water in the kitchen)
3) In a week I'll have all of my stuff (including an actual bed to sleep in!) and it will be easier to think of that place as mine. At least I won't actually be alone and I think life will be more comfortable with at least my kitties with me.
4) It's not like I have to be friends with my neighbors. It may happen. It may not. But I'm not depending on it to build a life for myself.

I WILL make friends, I WILL make a life (such as it will be with working probably more than 40 hours a week, possibly including Saturdays eventually) for myself and I do believe that Kristen will get a job down in this area and we'll be able to be together.

So.. yeah.. the metaphorical skies aren't completely black and I'm not dreading going home again tonight. I'll get home whenever (really want to find contact paper), figure something out for dinner and figure ways to make the night go by.

And if [livejournal.com profile] xeren maybe wants to get together sometime tommorow or wednesday night, so much the better. Another way to pass away the time.

Edit:Oh, [livejournal.com profile] xeren gimme a call either at my home phone number (check through my old Livejournal entries) or my cell phone I IM'ed you a while back if you still want to be a part of unloading stuff Sunday. I would definately appreciate the help, but I need to give you the details (i'd call you but I still don't have your number)

When Jill and I moved into our first Winnipeg apartment, I think we talked to other people in the building for a grand total of 20 words. No joke.

The apartment we're in right now has prompted more words, but they consist of "What floor?" when we step into the elevator.

Friends with your neighbours in an apartment building? I've yet to see it happen, either in my own or in other friends'. Don't worry about it. :)
