If I'm going to miss one thing about CC, it's actually posting to an audience, but.. *shrug*
We had a busy weekend and we're more or less on track to be all packed up and ready to go by October 24th. We've hired the movers, as suggested by our friends Lynne and Amy, and we should have everything that's going into a box in a box by Friday night.
It's so weird to look around and see my life being slowly but surely boxed up and put into a closet where certain cats can't claw at the boxes.
There's not a whole lot else going on BUT the move at the moment. After the move, we'll probably be ready to start working on other things again, but for now, the move is all (with occasional sanity-keeping breaks.

I want to touch on local politics for a bit.
In Virginia, it looks like McDonnell has a big lead over Deeds, and is probably going to cinch it. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that McDonnell is our new governor and this is entirely the fault of Deeds' campaign staff.
I'll be honest. I don't see myself voting for Deeds this year. His campaign has been lousy. I still have no idea what Deeds would do FOR me/Northern Virginia. All he wants to talk about is McDonnell's twenty year old thesis which McDonnell's already said "Look, I was young and I was stupid and 20 years and 3 daughters later, I don't have the same attitude."
Deeds is running a negative campaign. Were his staffers not paying ATTENTION in 2008 when that didn't work for McCain? Did they not catch the part where talking only about how bad the other guy is without saying what YOU'LL do is bad politics?
It's as if Deeds expects that since we're Northern Virginians we'll simply vote for him because we're Democrats but.. I was in New York when Cuomo got ousted and Pataki got put in mainly because Cuomo made way too many assumptions about how Buffalo would vote. I know a number of Northern Virginians who aren't happy with the way Deeds has campaigned, my wife and I included (and my wife is more liberal than I am)
I'm calling this for McConnell.

As horrible as the McDonnell thesis is, using that as your only campaign tactic amounts to a cheap shot. I believe you said even Obama isn't thrilled with how Deeds is running things? NOT A GOOD SIGN, DEEDS!

Date: 2009-10-12 06:25 pm (UTC)Negative politics should be banned. If someone is an unfit candidate, then that should be based on something they did that's illegal and should be taken care of in a court of law. The court of public opinion should be about what you are going to do. (Which is just stating what you already said...but I agree!)
Edit: And, that's one of the huge things pissing me off about the GOP right now. I wish they would focus on getting something done, on advancing the country, and not "bad politics".

Date: 2009-10-12 07:33 pm (UTC)I agree with you about negative politics, but I know they work too. :/ I personally prefer candidates who run on what they WILL do, no matter what party they run for, but they are few and far in between. Even Obama attacked McCain a few times.
And I agree that I'm getting frustrated with the GOP obstructionism, which is what I think you're saying. But I think they feel they have to. I think they feel that they DON'T have anything new to add to the conversation, so much like the negative politics ads, if you have nothing to say about yourself, you just go and attack the opposition.
I don't see this helping the GOP Death Spiral they're caught in. I don't feel like they've gotten why they've been spanked over the last two election cycles and I honestly see the spanking continuing until they do. It wasn't ONLY because people were upset at Bush, but because the GOP is making far more enemies than fans. They've lost inroads with Women, with Latino-Americans, with African-Americans, with college students, with.. pretty much everyone.
All the polls I read say that Obama's shine may be wearing off a bit and they may not all agree with his plans to fix Health Care, but they are alot less happy, as a whole, with the GOP members of congress.
